AURORA, Colo. –
Alex Darwin led the University of Colorado Colorado Springs with a 10-over-par 82 after the first round of the NCAA Division II National Preview at CommonGround Golf Course. The Mountain Lions shot a 334 for 46-over-par and are No. 20 on the same course that will host the national championship in May 2016.
The four scoring Mountain Lions were each within a four-stroke margin in today's round. Darwin hit a pair of birdies in today's round and is tied for No. 74 in the field.
Megan Vernon made her first appearance as a member of the scoring team as a freshman with an 11-over-par 83 and
Forre Zook hit an 84 for 12-over.
Raquell Castillo also made two birdies and rounded out the team score with an 85 today.
UCCS was six strokes behind California State-East Bay and the 46-over-par was the fourth-best round of the early season. The Mountain Lions will be paired with East Bay, Concordia-St. Paul and Colorado Christian when the final round begins at 8:30 a.m., on Tuesday.
