LONGMONT, Colo. – University of Colorado Colorado Springs junior
Raquell Castillo recorded a career-best score 77 for 5-over-par and is in third overall after the opening round of the first RMAC event of the season at Fox Hill Golf Club. The Mountain Lions are in a three-way tie for sixth with a team score of 332 for 44-over-par.
Castillo recorded a birdie on her second hole of the day on the par-3 hole 11. She played even through her first 10 holes and went 5-over on the next seven holes before completing the round with a par on hole 9. Castillo is one stroke behind the leaders and improved on her career-best score by two strokes from the second round in last week's tournament at CSU-Pueblo.
Alex Darwin shot an 82 for the second-best round for the Mountain Lions. She is tied for No. 19 in the field of 78 golfers.
Forre Zook shot an 85 and
Amanda Crites rounded out the team score with an 88.
UCCS is tied with CSU-Pueblo and Regis in the team standings, and the schools are five strokes behind fifth-place Western New Mexico. The Mountain Lions are five strokes better in relation to par for today's round compared to the opening round at the season-opening tournament last week.
The Mountain Lions will begin the final round on Tuesday at 9 a.m. UCCS will be paired with Regis and Montana State-Billings and will start on holes 8 through 10.
