Ryan Buchanan ran the fourth-fastest time in the 400-meter hurdles to advance to the finals on the second day of the 2015 RMAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Colorado State-Pueblo. He ran his fastest time since 2013 to reach Sunday's championship race.
Buchanan ran a raw time of 54.61 seconds for a season-best altitude-adjusted mark of 54.72 seconds. He was third in his heat, but ran faster than the second-place finisher in the first heat to secure his spot in the finals. Buchanan will race again on Sunday at 12:35 p.m.
Nick Lemley competed in the preliminaries of both hurdle events today and placed No. 11 in the 400-meter hurdles and No. 13 in the 110-meter hurdles. He improved his season-best in the 400 hurdles by nine-tenths of a second with a sea level time of 57.98 seconds, converted from a raw time of 57.87 seconds. He also ran an unadjusted time of 17.86 seconds in the 110 hurdles earlier in the day.
Ricardo Malta ran in the 200-meter dash preliminaries and clocked a time of 23.64 seconds for an adjusted time of 23.71 seconds.
The 400-meter hurdles will be the first event on Sunday to feature UCCS student-athletes on the final day of the championships. The Mountain Lions will also have entries in the 5,000-meter run at 1 p.m., and the 4x100-meter relay at 2:30 p.m.
