Alex Darwin shot a 76 and is ninth after the first round to lead the University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's golf team at the 2015 RMAC Championships at the Coldwater Golf Club. The Mountain Lions are seventh in the team standings with a 318 for 30 strokes over par.
Darwin's went 1-over on the back nine, helped by a birdie on hole 12. It was the best round of the spring for the Mountain Lions, the sixth-best round of the season and the seventh-best round in program history. She is seven strokes off of the lead and is in position for her third top-10 finish of the season.
Amanda Crites recorded her best round of her career with a 79 for 7-over. She made two birdies on the back nine and is tied for No. 18.
Raquell Castillo came within a stroke of her season-best with an 81 and
Jamie Zook rounded out the team score today with an 82.
The Mountain Lions turned in the fourth-best round in program history with today's 318 and the best since the second round of the Western New Mexico Fall Intercollegiate last September. UCCS is three strokes behind sixth-place Adams State and four strokes behind Colorado Mesa.
The final round will begin on Tuesday at 8:30 a.m., MDT. UCCS will be paired with teams from Colorado Christian and Chadron State and begin the shotgun start on holes six through eight.
