AZUSA, Calif. –
Corey Brown cut more than
20 seconds off his 5,000-meter time as the University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's track and field team wrapped up its trip to Southern California at the Bryan Clay Invitational hosted by Azusa Pacific. He finished in 15:04.65 to lead the Mountain Lions today.
Brown improved by 21.45-second improvement three weeks after he set his previous career-best at the Alex Francis Classic at Fort Hays State. Mitch Klomp also made a big move on his career-best with a nearly nine-second improvement to 15:19.53. The duo led eight Mountain Lions who competed in the events early this morning.
Matt Winfrey ran a season-best in the 1,500-meter run and broke the 4-minute mark for the first time this season with 3:59.36 today. He unofficially improved to No. 19 in the RMAC for the 1,500-meter run while
Travis Anderson ran 4:02.11 to place himself in the top 25 of the conference. Anderson finished second out of 22 runners in his heat.
Ryan Buchanan ran 56.05 seconds in the 400-meter hurdles and
Justin Bills clocked 2:02.27 in the 800-meter run to round out the other Mountain Lions in action today.
The Mountain Lions will be back in Colorado next week for the Colorado Mines Pre-Conference Meet. Action will take place April 24-25 at the Stermole Complex in Golden, Colo.
