Forre Zook shot a 79 for her best round since last September as the University of Colorado Colorado Springs improved by eight strokes in a sixth-place team finish at the Maverick Spring Invitational. The Mountain Lions shot 346 as a team in the final tune-up for the RMAC Championships next week.
Zook shot below 80 for the first time since the first round of the second RMAC event on Sept. 29, and it was her best second round score of her career. Her 79 was the eighth-best score of the tournament today and marked a 15-stroke improvement from yesterday's round. Zook moved into No. 22 in the field of 47 golfers with a two-round score of 173.
Alex Darwin improved by six strokes with an 86 today and finished No. 29 with a 36-hole score of 178.
Raquell Castillo turned in an 89 today and led the Mountain Lions in the overall standings at No. 19 with a tournament score of 171.
Jamie Zook improved her score to a 92 today to round out the UCCS second round score and tied teammate
Amanda Crites in the tournament standings with a 185.
UCCS will compete at the RMAC Championships April 20-21 at the Coldwater Golf Club in Avondale, Ariz. It's the same course the Mountain Lions played on in the Western New Mexico Fall Intercollegiate last September and recorded the best tournament score in program history.
