GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. –
Raquell Castillo recorded her lowest score of the spring season with an 82 as the University of Colorado Colorado Springs finished sixth in the first round of the Colorado Mesa Maverick Spring Invitational today at the Golf Clubs of Redlands Mesa. The Mountain Lions shot 354 as a team for 66 strokes over par.
Castillo recorded two birdies and tied for second in the tournament for scoring on the par three holes with an even average. Today's round was two strokes better than her previous best this spring and was her best since the second round of the Western New Mexico Fall Intercollegiate on Sept. 23. Castillo is tied for No. 12 and is two strokes away from her second top-10 finish of the season.
Amanda Crites shot an 87 and was third in the tournament in scoring for par four holes.
Alex Darwin finished with a 92 and
Jamie Zook turned in a 93 to round out the UCCS team score at 354. The Mountain Lions are 13 strokes off of fifth-place Colorado Christian.
The final round will begin Tuesday morning.
