GOLDEN, Colo. - David Kimaiyo and Kyle McCloskey both provisionally qualified in their respective events as the University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's track and field team finished the non-championship portion of the schedule at the Joe Davies Open today at Colorado School of Mines. Kamaiyo ran an adjusted time of 8 minutes, 24.28 seconds in the 3,000-meter run and McCloskey qualified with an adjusted time of 1:52.40 in the 800-meter run.

McCloskey finished second by 0.23 seconds and his time is eighth in the RMAC and No. 23 in Division II. He is three spots ahead of teammate Carson Aberle in the national performance lists, who didn't compete today after his qualifying time as a member of the distance medley relay last night.

Kimaiyo placed fifth overall and fourth among collegiate runners in the 3,000-meter run in his qualifying time. He has the fifth-fastest time among Division II freshman, is No. 11 among all runners in the RMAC and No. 40 in Division II. Kimaiyo was seven-hundredths of a second away from a fourth-place performance in today's race.

Travis Anderson crossed the finish line in 1:58.18 in the 800-meter run, and his adjusted time of 1:54.77 put him in No. 17 in the conference. He won his heat and improved his season-best time by more than two seconds.

Ricardo Malta ran his best adjusted time of the 200-meter dash with 23.74 seconds, and cut seven-hundredths of a second off of his 60-meter dash time. Seth Polich led nine Mountain Lions who recorded season-best times in the mile run with his altitude and track adjusted time of 4:23.85.

UCCS will begin the championship portion of the indoor schedule Feb. 27-28 at the RMAC Indoor Track & Field Championships in Gunnison, Colo. It will be the final chance for the Mountain Lions to reach or improve on qualifying marks ahead of the NCAA Division II Championships in March.
