COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's soccer team will look to carry the momentum off a 4-0 win on Monday to tonight's conference-opening game against No. 14 Metropolitan State University of Denver. The Mountain Lions (1-2-1 / 0-0 RMAC) and Roadrunners (3-0 / 0-0 RMAC) begin action at 5 p.m., at Mountain Lion Stadium.
UCCS is unbeaten at home in three of the last four games, with the only loss in that span coming in a 1-0 decision against MSU Denver. Both teams opened their respective seasons with home games against Hawaii Pacific, which resulted in a 1-1 tie for UCCS and 2-1 win for Metro State.
Four different Mountain Lions scored on Monday in a 4-0 victory against Southern Nazarene in the final non-conference game of the season.
James Roberts scored his second goal of the season to spark the offense in that game. It was his fifth game-winner of his career and his 13th overall. He is already seventh in career game-winning goals, and is two goals away from a tie for No. 10 in overall goals.
David Meyer earned his first start on Monday as a true freshman at goalkeeper. He earned the shutout in the first road shutout for the Mountain Lions since a 0-0 tie on Sept. 20 last season at MSU Denver.
The Roadrunners will be playing in their third straight home game tonight after a trip to Austin, Texas, last weekend. MSU Denver has given up one goal in each of its games this season, and closed out the non-conference season with a four-goal performance at Dallas Baptist. All eight goals for the Roadrunners have been evenly split between four different student-athletes.
Tonight will mark annual Homecoming festivities for students and alumni. Students will conduct the annual March from the Housing Quad at 3 p.m., and enjoy tailgating until gates open at 4:30 p.m. The Office of Student Activities will coordinate Bubble Bump Soccer during each of the halftimes.
Fans who won't be able to attend will be able to follow the game through live stats, in-game updates through twitter (@GoMountainLions), and through America One video streaming. Josh Howe will provide the call with television production from UCCS Media Services.Â
