KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Undefeated in their first two games over the weekend, the University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's soccer team leaped into the top five in the Week 2 United Soccer Coaches National Poll on Tuesday afternoon, rising eight spots for a No. 4 ranking.
The Mountain Lions No. 4 national ranking ties their second-highest position in program history and marks their highest placement since earning a No. 3 ranking in Week 9 of the 2024 National Poll on Nov. 5, 2024.
2025 NCAA runners-up Rollins College jumped to No. 1 in the national rankings after continuing their undefeated start to the season with a draw against Flagler College. The Mountain Lions were one of three Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) institutions within the top 25, as No. 12 Fort Lewis College and No. 22 Colorado State University Pueblo joined them. Regis University also received votes in the Week 2 rankings.
After starting off the season 2-0-0, the Mountain Lions welcomed and battled for a 1-1 draw against then-No. 1 Midwestern State University in the first home game of the season. UCCS followed this up with a 2-1 home victory against Lubbock Christian University on Sunday afternoon.
Offensively, the Mountain Lions were led by sophomore forward and Week 2 RMAC Offensive Player of the Week,
Yohann Fila. Fila has scored in three consecutive games, including the game-winning goal against Lubbock Christian in the 79
th minute. In two games played this week, Fila scored two goals and assisted one, for a total of five points. After the first two weeks of the season, the Mountain Lions offense leads the national with a total of 41 points. On the defensive side,
Hugo Sjöberg had a fine weekend, earning RMAC Goalkeeper of the Week honors. Sjöberg made 10 saves over the weekend and has only conceded two goals over the four games so far this season.
The UCCS men's soccer team will continue their homestand at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 9 against a University of Hawaii Hilo side that is currently receiving votes. Following their matchup against the Vulcans, the Mountain Lions will travel to Burnaby, British Columbia to face Simon Fraser University on Saturday, Sept. 12 at 1 p.m. (MT).
