HOW IT HAPPENED
- The first half went by scoreless, with each team having chances on free kicks outside the respective penalty boxes, but all the shots taken on such chances curled harmlessly off target. CSU Pueblo put two shots on net, but they led to relatively easy saves for Hugo Sjöberg. UCCS managed to get one shot on target off the foot of Lucas Taitt, but that also led to a fairly easy save for the ThunderWolves goalkeeper.
- In the 67th minute Joao Lutz had a wide-open shot on net, but Sean Belzer slowed it down with a block before Sjöberg was able to dive into frame and collect the ball inches short of the goal line and keep the match scoreless.
- Lutz had another opportunity in the 86th minute to win the game after a costly UCCS turnover, but he sailed his shot high of the net. Seconds later UCCS turned the ball over again, this time in the box, but again the ThunderWolves missed the open net. The Mountain Lions quickly pushed the ball up field on the goal kick, and Eduardo Macias put a dangerous shot on goal that got blocked by the CSU Pueblo defense. The ThunderWolves had one last opportunity with a corner kick in the last 30 seconds, but the only shot they got hit the side of the net and the game ended in a 0-0 draw.
