Yohann Fila netted a 79th minute goal to lift the No. 12 nationally ranked University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over Lubbock Christian University on Sunday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- UCCS started the game hot, pressuring the LCU defense with multiple crosses and controlling possession. UCCS continued to dominate the Chaparrals, with their best chance coming in the 18th minute when Sean Belzer drove a low corner to Dalton Uehling, whose initial shot was blocked. Uehling regained possession of the ball and ripped a shot that nearly missed the top left corner. In the following 15 minutes, LCU created a few spells of possession that resulted in a free kick taken by Aron DePaula that was headed wide by Max Moorahrend.
- At the 32nd minute, Uehling gained the ball in the attacking third and played Cole Wearner into the box with a sweet chip. Wearner played the ball back to Dillon Clarke whose shot was pushed to the left by Milo Paci into the feet of Moses Kamara. Kamara found the back of the net but was ultimately called offside. In the first half, the Mountain Lions outshot the Chaps 13 to five and took seven corners. The Mountain Lions finished the half with 73 percent possession.
- The Chaps jumped UCCS out of the gate to start the second half, winning a fifty-fifty ball in their attacking third, which Jack Brassey picked up and snuck past Hugo Sjöberg to the bottom left corner. Sjöberg got a hand on the ball but was unable to keep it out. The Mountain Lions could not be kept scoreless for long, as Uehling won a header at midfield that played Yohann Fila in, who beat two defenders and found Lucas Taitt for their first goal of the game at 51st minute.
- The first fifteen minutes of the second half was competitive between both teams, with the Chaps earning their first corner of the game and possession favoring UCCS. At the 63rd minute, Taitt sweetly nutmegged an LCU defender and had his shot blocked out for a corner by Paci. After Paci punched away the corner, Fila crossed the ball back in and Taitt ambitiously attempted a bicycle kick. Four minutes later, the Chaps respond with a chance of their own when Alex Lachevre passed a corner short to Joao Catafesta, who's cross attempt to Brassey is blocked out by Sjoberg.
- At the 79th minute, UCCS netted their second goal of the game when Wearner held the ball up and chipped it on to Fila, who neatly faked out the LCU goalkeeper at the top of the box and enjoyed scoring on an empty net. The Chaps had a chance from a free kick given by a UCCS tactical foul, but it was headed over the bar by Catafesta. UCCS responded three minutes later as Fila intercepted a pass from the LCU backline and rattled the ball off the crossbar. The Chaps won one last free kick about twenty-five yards out, but it was blocked by the Mountain Lions' four-man wall, confirming UCCS' 2-1 victory.

- The Mountain Lions outshot the Chaparrals 21 to 11 and had eight more corner kicks.
- Sjöberg played the full 90 minutes in frame for the Mountain Lions, surrendering one goal and recording five saves.
- Fila scored his third goal of the season and Taitt scored his first goal of the season.
- Milo Paci had eight saves on the day.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Today was the first time starting a season undefeated since the 2024 season, when the Mountain Lions went undefeated in their first 11 games (9-0-2).
- Fila scored in his second straight game and now paces the squad with 14 total shots, putting 10 of them on frame.
