Box Score COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. –
Conor Langenbahn score the game-tying goal with 8.8 seconds left in regulation for the University of Colorado Colorado Springs, but No. 14 Metropolitan State University of Denver scored the game-winner with 10 seconds left in double overtime as the Roadrunners (4-0 / 1-0 RMAC) won 2-1 against the Mountain Lions (1-3-1 / 0-1 RMAC). It was the conference-opener for both teams tonight at Mountain Lion Stadium.
MSU Denver scored in the ninth minute and controlled the offense for much of the first 12 minutes, with all three of its shots on goal during regulation coming in that span. The UCCS defense limited the Roadrunners to seven shots during the next 88 minutes, with the Mountain Lions countering with 10 shots. UCCS took eight shots in the second half with four on goal, including the game-tying one by Langenbahn off of a rebound on a shot from
Josh Berntsson.
The Mountain Lions had their best opportunity in the first overtime period to pull off the upset with shots from
J.R. Calhoun and
Austin Bell within the first three minutes. A shot by the Roadrunners' Nolan Barth went high with 40 seconds to go in MSU Denver's only shot of the first overtime.
Langenbhan took a header shot on goal seven minutes into the second overtime that was saved by MSU Denver, and the Roadrunners responded with a shot with 33 seconds left that was deflected out-of-bounds off a Mountain Lion on the end line. MSU Denver took the corner kick with 13 seconds left to play, and the Roadrunners scored the winning goal with 10 seconds left before the game would have ended in a tie with a header into the upper left corner of the goal.
James Roberts led UCCS with four shots in addition to Langenbahn's three total shots in the game.
Peter Vogrin made two saves in a return at goalkeeper.
The Mountain Lions will be at home against on Sunday in a game with Colorado Mesa at noon. The Mavericks (3-1-1 / 1-0 RMAC) defeated Colorado Mines in overtime tonight in Grand Junction, Colo.
