Alexa Urban Improves 800M Record at Colorado Mines

GOLDEN, Colo. - Alexa Urban lowered her qualifying time and program record in the 800-meter run by more than three-quarters of a second to lead a small group of University of Colorado Colorado Springs student-athletes at the Colorado Mines Qualifier today at the Stermole Complex.

Urban won the 800-meter run with 2 minutes and 13.08 seconds, which converted to a sea-level time of 2:12.11. She cut .77 seconds off of her previous best qualifying time from the Beach Invitational in April and improved to No. 34 in the NCAA Division II performance lists.

Urban's younger sister, Makenzie, finished second among collegiate runners and third overall in the 800 today with 2:16.46. Her time will adjust down to 2:15.46. Melanie Diep finished one spot behind Makenzie Urban with 2:17.32.

Ashley Benfield finished third in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with 11:42.64. Her time will adjust to 11:21.14. She will finish the season with a time that ranks No. 28 in NCAA Division II with her 11:00.72 from the Bryan Clay Invitational in April.

Veronica Sandoval ran her best adjusted time of the season in the 1,500-meter run today with 4:51.03. She finished sixth in the overall results and fourth for Division II runners.
