GOLDEN, Colo. - Defending 800-meter All-American
Carson Aberle opened the 2014-15 indoor track and field season with Division II's seventh-fastest time of the season to lead the University of Colorado Colorado Springs at the Colorado School of Mines Alumni Meet today at Steinhauer Fieldhouse. Aberle ran a track and altitude adjusted time of 1 minute, 54.59 seconds.
Aberle won his heat and finished third overall in an unadjusted time of 1:57.99. Teammate
Kyle McCloskey finished one spot behind Aberle in 1:59.05 and is eighth in the Division II performance lists with an adjusted time of 1:55.62. UCCS is one of three schools in Division II, along with Colorado Mines and Franklin Pierce, with two runners in the top 10 of the 800-meter performance lists.
Ryan Buchanan finished sixth in the 400-meter dash in 52.26 seconds and ran the leadoff leg on the 4x400-meter relay team that placed fourth in 3:35.04.
Caleb Simons and
Nick Lemley finished third and fourth, respectively, in their heat of the open 400 and joined Buchanan and
Ricardo Malta on the relay team. Malta finished eighth in the 200-meter dash with 25.22 seconds.
UCCS will be off during the holiday break before returning to Colorado Mines for the Twilight Open Jan. 23-24.
