KANSAS CITY, Mo. – After an away trip that included the Mountain Lions first lost of the season, the University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's soccer team find themselves at No. 14 in the Week 5 United Soccer Coaches National Rankings on Tuesday afternoon.
California State University, Los Angeles stays on top at No. 1 for the third week in a row after winning both of their conference games this past weekend. The Mountain Lions were one of three Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) schools within the top 25, as No. 8 Colorado State University, Pueblo and No. 24 Regis University joined them in the rankings. Colorado Mesa University received votes during the Week 5 national poll.
This past weekend marked the first RMAC conference games for the Mountain Lions. They first traveled to Grand Junction, Colo. to face Colorado Mesa University and the result was a 3-2 defeat for UCCS. They went on to face Westminster University in Salt Lake City, Utah, with that game ending in a 1-1 draw.
The Mountain Lions' three goals moved them up to second in the nation in total goals, with 24 goals in the first 10 games. All three goals were scored by different players. Sophomore forward
Yohann Fila bagged a goal and assist against the Mavericks, bringing his total to five goals on the season and extending his lead as the Mountain Lions' top scorer. Junior defender
Lucas Taitt also got on the score sheet against CMU, as he scored his fourth goal of the season in his first year with the Mountain Lions. This weekend was a special moment for senior midfielder
Dalton Uehling, as he scored his first collegiate goal in the draw against Westminster.
The UCCS men's soccer team will be back at home this weekend to continue their RMAC conference play. On Friday, October 2, they will host South Dakota School of Mines & Technology at noon. The Mountain Lions will then face No. 24 Regis University at 1 p.m. on Sunday, October 4.
