HOW IT HAPPENED | FRANSON LAST CHANCE
  • The Mountain Lions saw a pair of student-athletes run under the previous program record for the women's 3,000m steeplechase as Henderson shaved more than 10 seconds off her personal best with a provisional qualifying time of 10:25.83 that was good for fourth overall in the 30-person field and Breuer dropped more than 12 seconds off her previous PR with a provisional qualifying time of 10:29.77 that placed her fifth overall. Based on the NCAA Division II performance list entering the weekend, the times for Henderson and Breuer rank inside the top 15 in the nation and will put both ladies in prime position for a selection to the outdoor national championship meet.
  • Redshirt junior Megan Ericksen also notched a personal best NCAA provisional qualifying time in the women's 3,000m steeplechase as she finished seventh overall in the field with a time of 10:46.16, while redshirt senior Audrey Brunken finished 19th overall with a time of 11:14.82.
  • Earlier in the evening, redshirt junior Enzo Knapp competed among a large field of 194 runners in the men's 1500m and went on to clock a time of 3:56.35 that was good for 72nd overall in the race.
HOW IT HAPPENED | LOPER TWILIGHT
  • In the lone event of the day at the Loper Twilight for the Mountain Lions, UCCS had a pair of student-athletes competing in the invite section of the women's discus throw. Junior Ayianna Johnson was the top finisher for the Mountain Lions as she took sixth place overall out of nine competitors with a toss of 43.51m, while redshirt junior Grace Solarin was the eighth overall finisher with a heave of 41.73m.
BEYOND THE RESULTS
  • Henderson, Breuer, and Ericksen re-wrote the record book for the women's 3,000m steeplechase as the group now holds down three of the top five times in program history. Henderson (10:25.83) and Breuer (10:29.77) both easily took down the previous school record in the event that was established by Rachel Richtman (10:34.17) last spring, while Ericksen moved into fifth all-time in program history with her time of 10:46.16.
UP NEXT
  • The Mountain Lions will wrap up the outdoor qualifying season tomorrow with a group of sprinters, jumpers, hurdlers, and throwers competing on day two of the Loper Twilight in Kearney, Neb. starting at 11 a.m.
