Three Mountain Lion Infielders Earn ABCA All-Region Recognition

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The American Baseball Coaches Association announced the selections to the 2026 South-Central All Region teams Wednesday, with Bryce Peterson and Trevor Dale of the University of Colorado Colorado Springs Mountain Lions both selected to the First Team at second base and shortstop, respectively, with Tyler Genrich named to the second team as the extra infielder.

Bryce Peterson earns his second All-Region selection from the ABCA after earning a first team all-region selection at third base last season from the Coaches Association. Moving to second base for the first time in his career this season, Peterson looked right at home in the middle of the diamond. Peterson recorded 83 putouts and 151 assists in 243 chances, only committing nine errors on the season. Turning 28 double plays, Peterson proved himself as one of the most valuable defenders in the country. At the plate, Peterson led the region in hits with 92, finishing the season with an impressive .423 average. He scored 65 runs, driving in another 67 runs which were both in the top 40 of Division II players, and top 10 in the South-Central Region.

Trevor Dale, who began the year at third base, moved back to his previous position at shortstop after injuries shook up the UCCS order. Dale would not relinquish his job in the six hole of the infield, providing one of the best seasons by any player in the region. Dale shined in the batters' box, hitting at an average of .385, and taking first on balls 32 times. His inflated walk rate was largely because of the extent to which he did damage when teams did decide to pitch to him. Dale slashed 72 hits, with 55 of those hits going for extra bases. Dale tallied fourteen doubles, a team and conference leading six triples, and a Division II best 27 home runs, which also went down as a new single season record at UCCS. Dale's power at the plate earned him a .738 slugging percentage, landing him second in DII in that category.

Tyler Genrich plays his way onto the Second Team this season, after perhaps the most clutch player on the team for UCCS this season. Genrich, who took over as the starting first baseman this season, quickly instilled confidence in Mountain Lion fans as the new backstop at first but also turned heads with his offensive prowess at the plate. Genrich completed the Mountain Lion trio that led the league in RBIs, as he checked in third with 65. Not as big of a threat in the average department, Genrich made up ground in his hard-hitting ability, as he was fourth in the league in slugging percentage (.763) and eighth in the conference in OPS (1.196). Perhaps most impressive, Genrich was the man to answer the call at the plate numerous times this season, providing UCCS with three walk-off hits on the year, proving none could come through in a bigger spot. Defensively, Genrich led the RMAC with 421 putouts on the season, 79 more than the next most.

The infield trio led the Mountain Lions to a program record 33 wins in 2026, also capturing their first postseason win since 2022 with a 15-3 victory over CSU Pueblo in the first round of the RMAC tournament.
