COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs Department of Athletics continued its long-standing tradition of academic excellence during the 2025-26 academic year, recording its 44th consecutive semester and 22nd straight year with a department GPA above 3.00.
The Mountain Lions recorded a 3.268 GPA during the spring 2026 semester and capped the 2025-26 academic year with an outstanding 3.325 department GPA. The achievement also marked the 10th consecutive year UCCS Athletics has maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or higher.
"Our student-athletes continue to set the standard for excellence, and this achievement reflects their commitment to balancing academics and athletics at the highest level," said UCCS Executive Director of Athletics
Nathan Gibson. "A 3.25+ semester GPA—extending our streak to 44 consecutive semesters above a 3.0—is a testament to their discipline, the support of our faculty and staff, and a campus-wide commitment to student success. We are proud that over an entire academic year, our department maintained a 3.325 GPA, continuing a decade-long streak above 3.25. This is truly a collective effort and a point of pride for UCCS."
Leading the department academically once again was the women's cross country program under head coach Corey Kubatzky. The Mountain Lions posted a department-best 3.746 GPA during the spring semester and finished the academic year with an outstanding 3.785 GPA.
Women's soccer ranked second among all programs for the spring semester with a 3.658 GPA, followed by men's cross country (3.603), volleyball (3.460), and women's track & field (3.421).
Academically, 12 of UCCS's 14 programs earned at least a 3.00 GPA during the spring semester, with the same 12 programs also finishing the academic year above the 3.00 mark.
Individually, 158 student-athletes earned semester academic honors during the spring term, including 66 selections to the President's List and 92 honorees on the Dean's List. To qualify, students must complete at least 12 graded credit hours during the fall or spring semester. The President's List recognizes students who achieve a perfect 4.00 GPA, while the Dean's List honors students earning a GPA between 3.75 and 3.99.
