INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – For the second consecutive season, the University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's basketball team has earned a berth in the NCAA Division II Women's Basketball Championship Tournament. The Mountain Lions secured the No. 4 seed in the 2026 NCAA South Central Regional and will face No. 5 seed Adams State University on Friday, March 13.
Top-seeded Texas Woman's University will host the eight-team regional at Kitty Magee Arena in Denton, Texas. Quarterfinal games are scheduled for Friday, March 13, followed by the semifinals on Saturday, March 14. The regional championship game will be played Monday, March 16, with the winner advancing to the NCAA Division II Elite Eight.
UCCS enters the NCAA postseason with a 21-10 overall record and is making its fifth NCAA Tournament appearance in program history. This year also marks the Mountain Lions' second straight trip to the national tournament.
Friday's matchup will mark the third meeting this season between UCCS and Adams State, and the second in less than a week. Both teams finished tied for second place in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference standings with identical 15-5 league records. UCCS claimed the tiebreaker—and the No. 2 seed in the RMAC Tournament—after a 72-63 home victory over the Grizzlies on Feb. 26. The teams met again in the RMAC Tournament semifinals in Grand Junction, Colo., just two days ago, where the Mountain Lions edged Adams State 74-71 to advance to their third straight championship tournament game.
UCCS and Adams State are placed in the top half of the regional bracket alongside No. 1 seed Texas Woman's (29-1), which will take on No. 8 seed Eastern New Mexico University (20-10). The bottom half of the bracket features No. 2 seed West Texas A&M (28-4) against No. 7 seed University of Texas at Tyler (21-10), and No. 3 seed Colorado Mesa University (33-1) versus No. 6 seed Lubbock Christian University (23-7).
