HOW IT HAPPENED
  • UCCS started off strong by winning the tip-off and immediately putting the Grizzlies on defense. Amyah Moore Allen collected her first layup of the night after a minute of regulation play. Shortly after, Adams State went on a 9-0 scoring run, cut short by Mya Wilson's converted free throw. 40 seconds later, Rylie Ottmann connected with Ayianna Johnson for her first bucket of the night, closing the Grizzlies' lead to four points. Ottman found the basket herself a few moments later, scoring two consecutive layups and tying up the score. Adams State subbed three fresh legs into the game in an attempt to gain some more energy back, but it did not stop Johnson from finding her second bucket of the night and earning the Mountain Lions a 12-9 lead. After a four-minute scoring drought for Adams State, Brya Brooklyn Arroyo-Gillcrese collected a single point from the charity line. Gia Bradley quickly answered by fighting hard for a defensive rebound, then finding Moore Allen on the run who went on to add two more points to UCCS' total. Jayla Jackson-Allen recorded two free throws to finish the first quarter, leaving the Grizzlies to trail 16-12 headed into the break.
  • Moore Allen found the basket instantly after the second quarter began, and after successfully defending another Grizzly attack, found Jackson-Allen barrelling down the right side of the court who went on to convert a layup. Elania Watson started off scoring for Adams State with her seventh point of the evening, bringing the gap to six points. Finding some momentum, the Grizzlies went on a 6-0 scoring run. Bradley squashed their attempt to take the lead with a stunning three-point bucket from way downtown. After four minutes of back and forth action, Bradley converted her second three-point shot of the night, earning UCCS a 30-26 lead. A final three-point basket from Kiiyani Anitielu brought the score to 34-33, with the Mountain Lions taking a narrow lead into halftime.
  • Adams State started putting points on the scoreboard first in the third quarter with a single converted free throw from Ashiian Hunter. Amyah Moore Allen responded with five consecutive points within 35 seconds, leaving the Grizzlies to trail 39-34. Brynae Stewart re-entered the game and had an instant impact, collecting an offensive rebound and immediately putting up a shot to add two more points to UCCS' total. Both teams went back and forth for the following three minutes, until Breelyn Robinson scored her first three-point bucket of the night and gave the Mountain Lions the upper hand they needed. Moore Allen, Johnson, and Ottmann each took turns putting points on the board for the remainder of the third quarter and allowed the Mountain Lions to head into the break with a five-point advantage.
  • Moore Allen converted a layup 15 seconds into the final quarter, with Robinson burying a two-pointer of her own moments later. Both teams suffered a four-minute scoring drought until Anitielu earned a three-point bucket for the Grizzlies. The action went up and down the court for the remainder of regulation, with Bradley going two-for-two at the free throw line seconds before the final buzzer. UCCS earned their fourth straight win, while head coach Misty Wilson collected her 60th win as a Mountain Lion.
