Misty Wilson was announced as the 11
th head coach for the UCCS women's basketball program in April 2023 and is entering her third season with the program in 2025-26.
In her second year at UCCS, Wilson led the Mountain Lions to the 2025 RMAC Tournament Championship title and a berth to the NCAA Tournament, marking the first NCAA postseason appearance since 2016-17. UCCS started the postseason as the No. 6 seed and ended the conference tournament defeating No. 1 seed Colorado Mesa on their home court, 63-61. Earning the No. 7 seed in the NCAA postseason, UCCS’ season came to an end in the quarterfinal round to No. 2 seed LCU, 68-65. Among senior forward Maison White’s awards in 2024-25, she was named Academic All-District, RMAC All-Academic First Team, RMAC All-Tournament Team, and All-RMAC Second Team. Redshirt junior Amyah Moore Allen garnered D2CCA All-South Central Region First Team, RMAC All-Tournament Team Most Valuable Player, and All-RMAC First Team honors. After two seasons at UCCS, Wilson has a 42-20 record, two RMAC playoff appearances, one RMAC tournament title, a record of 5-1 in the RMAC tournament in the last two seasons, and an NCAA Tournament appearance.
Wilson’s first season at UCCS was a memorable one as she led the Mountain Lions to 13 more wins than the previous year, including 11 more wins in the regular season and nine more RMAC wins (23-8 overall, 18-4 RMAC) and a share of the RMAC Regular Season Title. For the first time in eight seasons, UCCS made an appearance on the NCAA South Central Regional Rankings in all three regular season rankings. Wilson and the Mountain Lions recorded a 12-game win streak making it the longest win streak in program history. Maison White and Amyah Moore Allen were named to the All-RMAC First Team and the RMAC All-Tournament Team, while five more Mountain Lions received RMAC All-Academic Honor Roll accolades. White would go on to also earn CSC Academic All-District First Team, RMAC All-Academic First Team, and RMAC Defensive Player of the Week (Jan. 29) honors.
A member of the Tarleton State University Hall of Fame, Wilson joins the Mountain Lions after serving as Tarleton State's head coach for nine years. She guided the Texans to an impressive 113-61 record in six seasons as a Division II program. TSU, which is currently in the process of transitioning from Division II to Division I and is a member of the Western Athletic Conference (WAC), has earned a 33-50 record as a Division I program, and 146-114 overall record under Wilson's leadership.
Wilson led the Texans to the 2017 Lone Star Conference (LSC) Tournament Championship in 2017 and the 2019-20 LSC Division Championship title, while earning NCAA South Central Regional bids for three straight seasons (2017-2019).
Wilson started her career as a head coach with back-to-back 17-win seasons in 2014-15 and 2015-16. Her 17 wins in her first season are the most victories by a TSU women's basketball first-year head coach in the NCAA era. In her third year at the helm, she won her first-ever conference tournament championship and an automatic berth to the NCAA regional tournament in 2016-17 season. She guided the Texans back to the NCAA regional tournament the following year after posting her first career 20-win season. Wilson and TSU garnered their third straight NCAA post-season tournament appearance after tallying a 22-9 overall and 14-6 mark in the LSC. In the last two seasons as a Division II program, Wilson guided the Texans to an impressive 43-17 record after claiming a 22-9 record in 2018-19 and a 21-8 mark in 2019-20 for her third consecutive 20-win season.
Tarleton State's inaugural season transitioning into Division I saw them notch a 9-16 overall record before adding seven more wins in 2021-22, finishing the season 16-13 overall. This past season and year three of the transition, TSU posted an 8-21 record.
Prior to taking the reigns of the program in 2014-15, Wilson served 12 years as an assistant coach from 2002-14. She helped then-head coaches Claude Cummings and Ronnie Hearne earn 219 wins over 12 season (219-126 overall record), six NCAA Division regional tournament bids and back-to-back LSC South Division Championship titles in 2010-11 and 2011-12, including the 2012 LSC tournament championship.
Prior to starting her coaching career, Wilson had an extraordinary playing career at TSU from 1998-2001. Competing in 103 career games, she scored 1,440 career points and was the season scoring leader three years in a row and is currently the eighth-best scorer in school history. She's currently in the top-10 of several Tarleton career categories, ranking as high as second all-time in steals and third in free throws made and attempted (433-545). As a junior, she earned a second team All-LSC South Division and second team All-South Central Region honors, including first team honors as a senior. In addition, she was the team's Most Valuable Player for three consecutive years.
In 2018, Wilson received special honor as the Tarleton Athletics Hall of Fame committee unanimously voted her into the Hall of Fame for her efforts as a player. She was inducted as the 164th member of the Hall of Fame and the 17th member to have competed in women's basketball.
A native of Burleson, Texas, Wilson earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Education from TSU in 2001, and her Master of Science degree in Kinesiology in 2004, also from TSU.
