UCCS Soccer Teams Earn Top-10 Regional Rankings in Inaugural NCAA Power Index Rankings

10/13/2026 12:00:00 PM

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's and men's soccer teams earned top-10 regional rankings in the inaugural NCAA Power Index (NPI) rankings, announced as Division II begins using the new metric to determine selections for the NCAA Tournament.

The UCCS women's soccer team ranks fifth in the South Central Region and 28th nationally in Division II, earning 57.709 NPI points. The Mountain Lions enter the latest rankings with a 9-3-2 overall record and a 5-2-1 mark in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) play, placing fourth in the conference standings.

The Mountain Lions men's soccer team sits sixth in Super Region 4 and 15th nationally in Division II with 62.284 NPI points. The Mountain Lions hold an 8-1-5 overall record and a 3-1-2 record in RMAC competition, ranking third in the conference standings.

The NPI is being implemented at the Division II level for the first time this season and will serve as the primary selection tool for determining the NCAA Tournament field in most team sports. The formula accounts for wins, strength of schedule, quality wins and match location, including home, away and neutral-site results.

In women's soccer, the South Central Region consists of programs from the Lone Star Conference and the RMAC. Following conference postseason play, the top six teams in the final NPI rankings will be seeded for the South Central Regional Tournament, with automatic qualifiers from each league also factored into the field.

In men's soccer, Super Region 4 includes programs from five conferences: the RMAC, Lone Star Conference, California Collegiate Athletic Association, PacWest Conference and Great Northwest Athletic Conference. Following conference postseason play, the top 10 teams in the final NPI rankings will be seeded for the Super Regional Tournament, with automatic qualifiers from each league also factored into the field.

Dallas Baptist University leads both Division II and the South Central Region in women's soccer with 63.709 NPI points. In men's soccer, Cal State LA leads Division II and Super Region 4 with 62.284 points.

The NCAA will release its next NPI soccer update on Monday, Oct. 19.  Beginning Monday, Oct. 26, soccer rankings will be updated daily, Monday through Friday.

The inaugural NPI rankings for Division II volleyball will also be released Monday, Oct. 19.

Both soccer programs will be in action on the road this weekend.  The Mountain Lions women's programs will play at New Mexico Highlands on Thursday at 3 p.m., and at Adams State University on Sunday at 1 p.m.  The UCCS men's team will play at Colorado Christian University Firday morning at 11 a.m., before facing Metropolitan State University of Denver on Sunday at 12 p.m.
