HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Mountain Lions immediately went on offense after the starting whistle blew, pinging it around CSM with ease. After seven minutes of play, Abby Stassi turned an Oredigger defender and rocketed a right-footed shot towards goal, but the ball sailed just inches over the crossbar.
- Two minutes later, Malia Groshong connected off a corner kick from Elise Broberg, running front-post and flicking the ball back into the net with a stunning header.
- Trailing by a single goal, CSM responded with their first scoring opportunity of the match as Lindsay Jeans cut past a UCCS defender and blasted a low shot towards goal. A skilled diving save by Lucy Kapranos denied the Orediggers' chance to tie up the score.
- With 42 minutes on the clock, CSM found success as Finley Ewald lobbed a cross from the right side of the pitch towards Bella Campos, who went on to head the ball just past Kapranos' fingertips.
- Now tied 1-1, the Mountain Lions returned from halftime with some extra momentum and recorded the first two shots of the second half. However, the Orediggers answered with some dangerous shots of their own, and much of the remaining regulation resulted in equal back-and-forth action.
- With eight minutes left in the match, Luka Johnson connected with the back-end of a corner kick and beat two CSM defenders towards the middle of the field, earning the space to blast a shot towards the lower left corner of the net. The ball drifted a couple inches left of the goalpost, and the score finished as a 1-1 draw as the match came to an end.
