Women’s Basketball Head Coach Misty Wilson Records 50th Career Win After Dominant Performance Against CSU Pueblo

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's basketball team dominated Colorado State University Pueblo 52-35 inside the Gallogly Events Center on Thursday evening, earning head coach Misty Wilson her 50th career win at UCCS. The Mountain Lions secured a season record for the lowest number of points given up by keeping the ThunderWolves to just five points in the second quarter.

HOW IT HAPPENED 
  • After a scoreless minute and a half to start the game, UCCS was the first to put points on the scoreboard with a layup and converted free throw from Rylie Ottmann. Amyah Moore Allen secured a layup of her own, earning the Mountain Lions an early 5-0 lead over the ThunderWolves. CSU Pueblo scored its first point three minutes after tip-off, but the Mountain Lions immediately responded by going on an 8-0 run to drive the score to 13-2. After trading baskets for nearly three minutes, UCCS ended the first quarter with a 14-9 lead. 
  • UCCS started the second quarter off strong with a quick layup from Ayianna Johnson, propelling another 8-0 run and earning a 22-9 lead for the Mountain Lions. After keeping the ThunderWolves at bay for four minutes, Wynter Jones scored CSU Pueblo's first points of the second quarter with an impressive hook shot. A three-minute scoring drought for both teams immediately ensued, finally broken by Jayla Jackson-Allen's converted layup. Laci Roffle was able to score a single free throw just seconds before the halftime buzzer sounded off, bringing the score within 13 points. Forcing CSU Pueblo to turnover the ball 17 times and keeping them to a total of five points, UCCS recorded a season record for the fewest number of points given up in a single quarter. 
  • The ThunderWolves turned their luck around and started off scoring early in the third quarter, but the Mountain Lions quickly diminished their momentum by going on a 6-0 run. Brynae Stewart continued putting points on the scoreboard for UCCS by converting a three-point shot, putting CSU Pueblo behind by 17 points. With 15 seconds left on the clock before the break, Ruby Sweeney-Spitzeck made a layup and closed her team's deficit down to 14 points. 
  • As the ThunderWolves attempted to shorten the gap in points, both teams traded baskets for the entirety of the fourth quarter. UCCS's leading scorer of the night, Moore Allen, logged four points in the final quarter of the game, helping the Mountain Lions secure a 52-35 win over CSU Pueblo and their eight conference win of the season. 
   
GAME STATISTICS 
  • Amyah Moore Allen made 7-of-14 from the floor and 2-of-2 free throws as part of her total 16 points. Rylie Ottmann chipped in 13 points and four rebounds. 
  • Ayianna Johnson came off the bench to net nine points and record six rebounds. 
  • UCCS shot 37.9 percent from the floor (22-of-58) and 85.7 percent from the line (6-of-7). 
  • Seneya Martinez and Jada Bobb led CSU Pueblo with eight points each while logging four and six rebounds, respectively. 

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE 
  • Head coach Misty Wilson earned her 50th career win after defeating the Thunder Wolves. 
  • The 35 points allowed are the fewest allowed in 23 seasons for UCCS.  The Mountain Lions held Colorado College to 34 points in a 70-34 home win on Jan. 27, 2004.
  • Steward, who transferred to UCCS from CSUP, made her first start of the season tonight.
  • After keeping CSU Pueblo to a total of five points in the second quarter, UCCS recorded a season low for the fewest amount of points given up in a single quarter. 
  • Amyah Moore Allen currently ranks No. 5 in the RMAC for most points scored per game, averaging 17.1 this season. 
  • Ayianna Johnson sits in the No. 11 spot in the RMAC for most rebounds per game, averaging 6.5 this season.
