No. 8 Mountain Lions Place Third at UWP Lucian Rosa Invite

KENOSHA, Wis. – All five Mountain Lion scorers finished in the top 25 of the 2025 University of Wisconsin Parkside Lucian Rosa Invitational Saturday morning, as the University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's cross country team finished third out of 23 teams with 83 points.  Saturday's race was held at the Wayne E. Dannehl National Cross Country Course in Kenosha, Wis., the site of the 2025 NCAA Division II National Championship meet.

AROUND THE COURSE
  • True freshmen Kate Henderson and Elizabeth McQuitty led the Mountain Lions as they ran in their first 6k race in a UCCS uniform.  Henderson clocked a time of 21:35.78 to finish seventh overall, just ahead of McQuitty's 10th-place finish in 21:37.91.
  • Earning a 19th-place finish in 21:53.90 was Maddie Ruszkiewicz, who was four seconds ahead of teammate Emma Montoya (22nd place, 21:57.83).
  • Rounding out the Mountain Lions scorers was Molly Breuer, who claimed a 25th-place finish in 22:06.46.
                       
RACE LEADERS
  • Grace Strongman from Colorado School of Mines led all 207 runners with a time of 20:36.71.
  • Mines won the 23-team meet with 51 points.  Finishing second with 77 points was Adams State University, just six points ahead of UCCS.
 
BEYOND THE FINISH LINE
  • Five Mountain Lions notched 6k personal best times Saturday morning.  Including Henderson and McQuitty's first 6k collegiate times, Emma Montoya added a new PR time of 21:57.83 (22nd place).  Also notching improved 6k times were Megan Ericksen (22:39.80, 51st place) and Kaley Fergus (22:45.44, 58th place).
  • Seven Division II teams competing in today's UWP meet are nationally ranked by the USTFCCCA. No. 4 CSM defeated No. 1 Adams State, while No. 8 UCCS finished ahead of No. 12 Lee University, No. 15 Colorado State University Pueblo, No. 24 Minnesota State University Mankato, and No. 25 UWP.
 
UP NEXT
  • UCCS will host the last regular-season meet on Friday, Oct. 10, at Monument Valley Park.  The women's 6k race will begin at 9:45 a.m.
