2025 UCCS Women's Lacrosse Season Recap

Women's Lacrosse Season Recap
  • The Mountain Lions' 2025 season saw them command their first winning season since 2022, going 9-6 overall and 6-4 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference games. UCCS qualified for the RMAC tournament as they finished third overall in the conference but fell short to No. 2 Regis University in the semifinals.
  • The Mountain Lions opened the season with a home win over Davenport (18-13) on February 25. They followed the season opener with a loss at Rockhurst University (16-10) and an overtime win at Missouri Western State University (16-15). UCCS finished their non-conference schedule with a win over Ashland University (16-10) on March 5, entering RMAC play with a 3-1 record.
  • UCCS won 16-12 over Westminster University on March 14 but lost two days later to the No. 1-seeded RMAC team, Colorado Mesa University, in a close 18-15 finish. The Mountain Lions then went on a three-game road trip, winning against Fort Lewis College (18-3) and Colorado State University Pueblo (21-8) but losing an 11-10 thriller against Regis on March 27.
  • The Mountain Lions finished their final five games of the regular season with a 3-2 record, with losses coming from Mesa on April 11 and Regis on April 18 for senior day at Mountain Lion Stadium. UCCS entered the RMAC tournament as the No. 3 seed in the conference.  
  • UCCS traveled to Grand Junction, Colo., for a matchup against the No. 14 ranked team in the country, No. 2 in the RMAC, and for a third matchup of the season, Regis. The Rangers beat UCCS 13-5, ending their season on April 25.

Stat Leaders
  • The Mountain Lions led the RMAC in points per game (first, 21.76), shot percentage (first, .485), and assists per game (first, 7.13) this season.
  • UCCS also ranked highly in multiple categories in the conference, including goals per game (second, 14.73), shots per game (third, 30.40), shots on goal per game (third, 23.47), goals against average (third, 12.42), ground balls per game (second, 25.27), and draw controls per game (third, 14.87).
  • Sarah Urbanic led the Mountain Lions in multiple facets of offense this season as a sophomore, leading the team in goals (56), points (75), shots (113), shots on goal (82), and free-position shots (22) while starting all 15 games.
  • Urbanic also led the RMAC in goals per game with 3.73, averaging the most points per game in the conference with 5.00, a whole point above Shea Murphy, who tallied 3.89 points per game at Regis. Urbanic also led the RMAC in shots per game with 7.53 attempts.
  • Freshman Sofia Watts was second on the team in goals with 43 and was third on the team in points with 47. She was also second on the team in shots (88) and shots on goal (70).
  • Eight Mountain Lions reached double-digit goals: Urbanic (56), Watts (43), Emma Grace Martin (31), Sydnee-Anne Moeller (21), Erica Rivera (16), Allie Schell (13), Peyton Ross (12), and Rylie Maready (11).
  • Kendra Knutson recovered 2.87 ground balls per game, which ranks fifth most in the RMAC. Meghan Weiss corralled 2.54 ground balls per game, good for the ninth most in the conference.
  • Ava Goodnature led the team in caused turnovers with 20 and averaged 1.33 caused turnovers per game, the 10th best in the RMAC.
  • Jordyn Nuñez commanded a save percentage of .393 while collecting 77 saves this year. She was responsible for eight wins and five losses in the season in 15 games, starting at 11 and collecting 579:08 minutes played.
  • Ellen Gernert was in goal for 225:03 minutes this season, appearing in 10 games and starting twice. Gernert tallied 31 saves for a save percentage of .388.
  • Freshman Delaney Gnos played goal for 94:15 minutes, appearing in five games and starting one. Gnos made eight saves and was responsible for one win.
  • Four Mountain Lions started all 15 games this season: Urbanic, Grace Martin, Rivera, and Knutson.

  • The team's 21.76 points per game and 328 total points rank as the second most in a season by any team in program history. On April 6 versus Fort Lewis, the Mountain Lions tallied 38 points, the most by a team in a single game in program history.
  • UCCS's 221 goals tied them with the second-highest goals scored in a season as a team (2018). The team's 14.73 goals per game are the most by any team in program history. Their 23 goals versus Fort Lewis on April 6 tie them with the most goals scored in a game in program history.
  • UCCS' 107 assists and 7.13 assists per game this season rank as the second most by a team in program history.  
  • The Mountain Lions' 379 ground balls are the most by any team in program history. Their 223 draw controls rank as the fourth most in a season by any team in program history. Their 25 draw controls versus Fort Lewis on April 6 rank as the most draw controls recorded by a team in program history, and their 23 versus Westminster on April 13 is the second most.
  • The team's 131 caused turnovers this season are the fourth-most in program history. UCCS's 17 caused turnovers on March 3 versus Ashland, the most in a game in program history.
  • Out of nine opponents faced this season, UCCS only lost to three programs: Rockhurst early in the season, two losses versus Mesa in conference play, and three losses to Regis, two in the regular season and one in the semifinals of the tournament.
  • Urbanic's sophomore season was one for the books. She scored the most points in a season with 75 and had two games with nine points on April 4 versus CSU Pueblo and on April 6 versus Fort Lewis, which ranks as the fourth most points in a game in program history. Her 5.00 points per game ties her with Hannah Mill (2022) for the most per game in a season.
  • Urbanic's 56 goals were the most scored in a season in program history, and her average of 3.73 goals per game is also the most. Urbanic had four game-winning goals this season, which ranks as the most game-winners in a season in program history. Her six game-winning goals in her career place her with the second most in program history. Her nine goals on April 4 are the most goals scored in a game for UCCS.
  • Urbanic's 113 shots is a new record high for any Mountain Lion, and her 82 shots on goal are the second most in a season. She shot 7.53 attempts per contest and 5.46 on goal, ranking as the second most per game in a season.  
  • Urbanic became the sixth Mountain Lion to record 100 points in a career with 104 and sits at fifth all-time in goals (81). She is now second in player-up goals (14) in program history.
  • Watts had a great showing in the semifinal game versus Regis in the RMAC tournament, achieving All-Tournament status. Watts had three goals on six shots, three shots on goal, picked up one ground ball, and won a draw control on April 25.
  • Watt's 88 shots rank as the sixth-most shots a Mountain Lion has attempted in a season. Her 70 shots on goal rank as the fourth most in a season.
  • Grace Martin's 24 assists and 1.6 assists per game rank second-most recorded in program history in a season. Urbanic's 19 assists this season rank her fourth for the most assists recorded in a season, and Allie Schell's 18 assists rank her sixth for the most assists in a season.
  • Ava Goodnature finishes her career tied for the fifth-most games played in program history with 59.
  • Meghan Weiss finishes her career with the eighth most games played in program history with 58 and the seventh most ground balls at 81.
  • Knutson is now tied for the seventh most games started in program history with 48 and has recorded the fourth most ground balls by a Mountain Lion with 103 in her career. Her 43 ground balls this season are the third most by a junior. She also sits at 41 caused turnovers, the sixth most in program history.
  • Nunez is tied for the second-most wins in goal in program history (eight).
  • With her team-leading 11 free-position goals, Grace Martin is now third in program history with 22.
  • Rivera finishes her Mountain Lion career having the third most woman-up goals (11), tied for the ninth most assists (30), the sixth most draw controls (96), the eighth most draw controls per game (2.00), tied for the tenth most caused turnovers (33), and the seventh most free-position goals (17).
  • Ross (82), Wilson (68), and Moeller (66) all enter the top 10 in draw controls after this season, sitting at sixth, seventh, and eighth, respectively.
  • Jade Wilson's 68 draw controls are the third most collected in a season in program history.
  • The Mountain Lions' nine wins this season tie them for the most wins in a season in program history, tying the 2022 team, which went 9-7. The 2025 team's six conference wins are the most by any team in the program's history.
