HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Senior Victoria Malaki opened day two of the outdoor national championship meet with a strong performance in the women's discus throw as she posted a mark of 47.07m on her second toss of the afternoon for a 10th place finish. Although she finished just one spot away from qualifying for the finals, Malaki secured Second Team All-America honors in the event for the first time in her career as a Mountain Lion.
  • Competing at outdoor nationals for the first time in his collegiate career, junior Kyle Demos earned a 15th place finish in the men's discus throw with a toss of 51.04m. Demos will have another opportunity to secure the first All-America honors of his career tomorrow evening as he will compete in the men's shot put final starting at 5:05 p.m.
  • The men's 4x400m relay team of Sebastien Jean, Peyton Nelson, Sean Donelson, and Ashton Whisler raced to a time of 3:09.91 in the preliminary round of the event, which placed them sixth in their heat and 12th overall in the field to put them just a couple spots away from qualifying for tomorrow's event final.
BEYOND THE RESULTS
  • Although today's All-America honor was the first at the NCAA Division II level for Malaki, it marked the third such honor of her collegiate career as she collected USTFCCCA All-America accolades in the hammer throw and discus throw at the 2023 NJCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships while a member of the track & field team at Mesa Community College.
UP NEXT
  • After Demos opens the third and final day of competition at the outdoor national championship meet in the men's shot put at 5:05 p.m., the Mountain Lions will have redshirt junior Jagger Zlotoff competing in the 1500m final at 5:45 p.m. and senior Anna Fauske racing in the women's 5,000m at 8:05 p.m.
