Track & Field Wins Three Events on Day One of RMAC Outdoor Championships

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs track & field team put together a string of impressive performances across the board on the first day of the 2025 RMAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships as the men's and women's teams combined to record nine podium finishes and seven NCAA provisional qualifying marks. After one day of competition, the UCCS women's team sits in first place with 64.5 points, while the men's squad is in second place with 39 points.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Redshirt senior Caiden Macktinger brought home the first gold medal of the meet for the Mountain Lions in the men's pole vault as he cleared a season-best NCAA provisional qualifying bar height of 5.07m to win the event and secure 10 points for the men's team. Junior Brayden Shaw added one more point to the team tally in the event as he finished in a three-way tie for seventh place with a season and personal best mark of 4.47m.
  • The Mountain Lions secured another gold medal in the men's hammer throw as senior Luke Hard unleashed a school record and NCAA provisional qualifying toss of 62.42m to finish first in the event and score 10 points. Sophomore Hayden Cuevas and junior Michael Roberts teamed up to add seven more points in the event as Cuevas finished fifth overall with a toss of 55.45m and Roberts took sixth overall with a mark of 54.74m.
  • Senior Anna Fauske raced to a gold medal in the women's 10,000m race under the lights as she clocked an NCAA provisional qualifying converted time of 34:48.44 to finish first overall and score 10 points. Junior Kseniya Nikanorov was right on the tail of Fauske as she crossed the line in a season-best NCAA provisional qualifying converted time of 35:05.10 to finish third overall and bring in six more points for the women's team.
  • The Mountain Lions put together an incredible showing in the women's long jump as five student-athletes placed inside the top eight of the competition to score a total of 23 points. Redshirt junior Madissyn Moore was the top finisher for UCCS as she secured second overall with a leap of 5.64m, while sophomore Danaya Kinnard joined her on the podium with a third-place leap of 5.56m. Sophomore Zane Bullock notched a personal best leap of 5.56m and finished fifth via tiebreaker, with senior Chelsea Howard claiming sixth place with a leap of 5.51m and junior Kathryn Carroll taking seventh place with a mark of 5.50m.
  • In the women's hammer throw, junior Savannah Jorgens was the top competitor for the Mountain Lions as she posted an NCAA provisional qualifying toss of 54.74m to finish third overall and score six points. Junior Bailey Young and senior Victoria Malaki both came up just shy of the provisional qualifying threshold in the event (52.80m), but each managed to score points with Young finishing fifth overall at a personal best mark of 52.37m and Malaki taking sixth place with a personal best toss of 52.20m.
  • Junior Brooke Peterson was just short of reaching the NCAA provisional qualifying threshold (3.79m) in the women's pole vault as she cleared a bar height of 3.78m to finish second in the competition. In addition to the eight points scored by Peterson, sophomore Phia Edwards pushed 4.5 more points in the direction of the UCCS women's team as she posted a mark of 3.53m to finish in a tie for fourth place.
  • Senior Logan Cole raced to an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 29:50.28 in the men's 10,000m as he finished seventh overall in the event and scored two points for the UCCS men's squad.
  • UCCS scored nine points in the men's long jump as junior Willie Tran logged a fifth-place finish and scored four points with a mark of 6.93m while redshirt sophomore KJ McInnis secured a spot on the podium and scored six points with a third place leap of 7.16m.
  • In the men's decathlon, sophomore Evan Atkin finished the first day of competition in first place overall out of nine athletes as he posted a score of 3,576 points through the first five events. Atkin posted a season-best mark of 6.67m in the long jump and raced to a personal best time of 50.77s in the 400m dash. Junior Dillon Arvayo finished fifth in the standings for day one, posting a score of 3,250 points while recording season-bests in the long jump (6.45m) and 400m (52.70s).
  • Sophomore Lilyana Delagarza posted a score of 2,223 points across the first four events of the women's heptathlon and currently sits 11th out of 19 competitors in the event. Delagarza posted marks of 18.99s in the 100m hurdles, 1.55m in the high jump, 7.30m in the shot put, and 25.97s in the 200m.
  • The Mountain Lions had four student-athletes advance through the preliminary round of the men's 400m dash with junior Sebastien Jean posting the top overall mark in the field at an NCAA provisional qualifying converted time of 47.44s. Sophomore Ashton Whisler and freshman Sean Donelson also secured automatic advancement to Sunday's event final with Whisler winning his heat in a converted time of 47.80s and Donelson finishing second in his heat at a converted time of 48.77s. Freshman Peyton Nelson was the final qualifier in the event for the Mountain Lions as he finished third in heat two but advanced to the final with the seventh-fastest time in the preliminary field at a converted mark of 48.41s.
  • UCCS saw a pair of student-athletes qualify for Sunday's event final in the preliminary round of the women's 400m dash as senior Alyssa Lopez earned automatic qualification as the second overall finisher in her heat with a converted time of 58.39s and redshirt senior Rachel Goodrich qualified with the seventh-fastest mark in the preliminary field at a personal best converted time of 57.83s.
  • Sophomore Krissie Sanders made her way through the preliminary round of the women's 400m hurdles as she clocked an NCAA provisional qualifying converted time of 1:01.96 to finish second in her heat and fourth overall in the field. Redshirt junior Gigi Douillard also earned qualification into the final as she recorded a personal best converted time of 1:03.26 that registered as the seventh-fastest time in the field.
  • Junior Daryn Ofori-Kuragu headlined a group of three UCCS student-athletes that advanced through the preliminary round of the men's 100m dash as he finished second in his heat with a converted time of 10.67s. Senior Kymani Sterling and redshirt senior Donovan Mini secured their positions in the final by time as they finished third in their respective heats with converted marks of 10.75s and 10.789s.
  • In the preliminary round of the women's 100m dash, senior Victoria Farinas was an automatic qualifier as the second finisher in heat three with a converted time of 12.09s. Bullock joined her in the group of advancing student-athletes as she secured the final qualifying spot in the event with a converted time of 12.17s.
  • Redshirt junior Jagger Zlotoff punched his ticket to the Sunday's 1500m final as he circled the track in a converted time of 3:51.41 as the top finisher in heat one. Redshirt sophomore Enzo Knapp stayed close with Zlotoff, finishing fifth in heat one and qualifying for the final with a converted time of 3:53.87 that was good for 10th overall in the field.
  • On the women's side of the 1500m preliminary, the Mountain Lions had a pair of student-athletes qualify by time for Sunday's final with sophomore Emma Montoya clocking the ninth-fastest mark in the field at a personal best converted time of 4:36.82 and freshman Madison Brosig posting the 12th-fastest time in the field at a converted mark of 4:45.50.
BEYOND THE RESULTS
  • UCCS recorded updates to the top five lists in the outdoor record book for three different events on day one of the RMAC Outdoor Championships, including the men's pole vault and men's and women's hammer throw. 
  • Hard's mark of 62.42m in the hammer throw registered as a new RMAC outdoor conference meet record and will likely move him into the top ten on the outdoor performance list for the event.
