Peterson Posts Provisional Mark in Pole Vault at Mines Midweek Meet #2

GOLDEN, Colo. – In their final competition prior to next weekend's conference championship meet, the University of Colorado Colorado Springs track & field team had a light group of student-athletes in action at the Mines Midweek Meet #2 in Golden, Colo. on Thursday and saw four event wins on the track in addition to an NCAA provisional qualifying mark in the women's pole vault from junior Brooke Peterson.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Junior Brooke Peterson posted the lone NCAA provisional qualifying mark of the day in the women's pole vault as she cleared a season and personal best bar height of 3.93m to finish third overall in the competition. Sophomore Phia Edwards also had a strong outing as she posted a mark of 3.63m to finish in a tie for fourth place.
  • Redshirt senior Rachel Richtman opened the day on the track with a strong showing in the women's 5,000m as she cruised to a first-place finish among 15 runners in the event with a personal best converted time of 17:21.94. Two additional Mountain Lions student-athletes finished inside the top five finishers for the event with redshirt junior Molly Breuer taking third place in a converted time of 18:17.06 and redshirt freshman Kaley Fergus finishing fourth overall in a converted time of 18:22.61.
  • The Mountain Lions secured each of the top five spots in the women's 1500m race with senior Anna Fauske besting the entire 23-person field for a first-place finish with a converted time of 4:37.21. Sophomore Emma Montoya logged a second-place finish in the race with a converted time of 4:42.48, while junior Kseniya Nikanorov finished third in a personal best converted time of 4:43.17, redshirt sophomore Maddie Ruszkiewicz took fourth place with a personal best converted time of 4:43.60, and redshirt sophomore Abby Bartel claimed fifth place with a personal best converted time of 4:44.11.
  • Sophomore Brett Davis galloped to a converted time of 3:53.34 in the men's 1500m as he earned a first-place finish in the field of 15 runners. He was joined in the top five by redshirt sophomore Enzo Knapp in second place with a converted time of 3:54.02 and redshirt freshman Jonas Graff in fourth place with a personal best converted time of 3:58.02.
  • Senior Kymani Sterling was the first-place finisher in the men's 200m dash as he completed the race in a season-best converted time of 21.59s to best the 14-person field.
  • Junior Kathryn Carroll posted a season and outdoor personal best mark of 5.56m in the women's long jump as she finished second overall in the competition.
  • In the women's discus throw, freshman Jaedyn Kohn posted a three-and-a-half-meter improvement over her previous personal best in the event as she finished second overall with a mark of 40.46m. On the men's side, freshman Joseph Bjegovich posted a season-best mark of 42.37m to finish fifth overall, while fellow freshman Trevor Moore notched a nearly four-meter personal best in the event with a toss of 40.63m.
  • A national qualifier in the event last season, sophomore Krissie Sanders made her season debut in the women's 400m hurdles and went on to post a second-place finish in the event with a converted time of 1:02.79.
  • In the women's 800m, redshirt senior Rachel Goodrich earned a second place finish out of seven competitors as she clocked a converted time of 2:20.55. On the men's side, freshman Jacob Silvis raced to an altitude adjusted time of 1:55.43 to finish fourth overall out of 13 competitors.
  • The Mountain Lions had a pair of freshmen competing in the men's hammer throw and saw both of them record personal best performances in the event with Alex Johnson posting a mark of 40.22m and Moore notching a toss of 40.08m.
  • Freshman Andrew Knudson sprinted to a personal best converted time of 11.18s in the men's 100m dash, finishing 10th overall in the 16-person field for the event.
BEYOND THE RESULTS
  • Peterson's mark of 3.93m in the women's pole vault moved her into second place all-time in UCCS women's outdoor program history for the event.
UP NEXT
  • The Mountain Lions will head back to Colorado School of Mines' Stermole Track & Field Complex next weekend to compete at the 2025 RMAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships. The three-day meet will kick off on Friday, April 25 and conclude on Sunday, April 27.
