COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Freshman infielder Tayler McCombs of the University of Colorado Colorado Springs softball team has been tabbed as the Week 4 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) Softball Player of the Week after leading the Mountain Lions to a four-game sweep over Chadron State with a huge performance in the batter's box.
 
A first-year player from Gilbert, Ariz., McCombs becomes the second student-athlete from the UCCS softball program to collect weekly conference award, joining sophomore Laynee Case, who was named the Week 2 RMAC Player of the Week.
 
McCombs continued her strong debut season with the Mountain Lions last weekend as she posted a .643 batting average (9-for-14) in four games played with two doubles, a triple, two home runs, 10 RBIs, seven runs scored, and 19 total bases while helping the team secure a sweep of Chadron State. In Saturday's doubleheader against the Eagles, McCombs went 2-for-4 in the first game of the day to help UCCS earn a comeback 8-7 win before posting a perfect 3-for-3 line in game two with a double, a home run, and four RBIs to lead the Mountain Lions to a 10-0 run-rule win. McCombs kept the good times rolling on Sunday as she went 1-for-3 with a double and two runs scored to help the Mountain Lions secure an 8-5 win in the third game of the series. In the final game of the set against the Eagles, McCombs played a huge part in helping UCCS climb out of an early five-run deficit as she posted a 3-for-5 line with a triple, a home run, and five RBIs. McCombs came up clutch in the Mountain Lions' efforts to finish off the sweep as she recorded an RBI triple off the top of the wall in the bottom of the sixth inning that tied the game at 10 runs apiece before a single from the next batter brought her across the plate to score what turned out to be the winning run in a 11-10 victory.
 
After the first 20 games of the season, McCombs ranks among the top five in the conference for nearly every major offensive category as she currently sits second in slugging percentage (.927), total bases (51), and triples (3), third in hits (28) and OPS (1.484), and fourth in batting average (.509).
 
In addition to her conference recognition, McCombs was listed as one of the selected top performers of the week in NCAA Division II by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) in their weekly honors release. McCombs and the UCCS softball program will look to continue their recent success this weekend when they welcome Fort Lewis College inside Mountain Lion Field for a four-game conference series on March 8-9.
