PUEBLO, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs track & field team opened the 2025 outdoor season with a small group of throwers and jumpers competing on day one of the Dr. Dan Caprioglio Invitational at the CSUP ThunderBowl.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Freshman Payton Rodgers had a strong showing in the women's triple jump as she finished first overall in the 14-person field with a leap of 11.65m. In the men's triple jump, the Mountain Lions placed a pair of student-athletes in the top three of the 10-person field with redshirt sophomore KJ McInnis taking second place at 14.38m and freshman Realiti Smith finishing third overall at 14.11m.
- Junior Savannah Jorgens paced the Mountain Lions in the women's hammer throw, posting a personal best toss of 47.51m to finish eighth out of 34 competitors. Senior Victoria Malaki and junior Bailey Young also finished in the top third of the field with Malaki claiming 10th place at a mark of 46.80m and Young finishing in 11th place with a toss of 46.61m.
- The Mountain Lions had a pair of solid outings in the men's hammer throw with junior Michael Roberts claiming a fifth-place finish in the 42-person field with a near personal best toss of 55.27m and sophomore Hayden Cuevas securing 12th place with a throw of 48.32m.
- Freshman Dyanna Parra made a positive impression during her collegiate debut in the women's javelin throw as she recorded a mark of 36.65m that was good for eighth in the 34-person competition field and already puts her just outside the top five in program history for the event.
- In the men's javelin throw, another Mountain Lion freshman put forth an impressive entrance to the collegiate level as Jordan Mora finished ninth out of 28 competitors with a throw of 52.60m.
BEYOND THE RESULTS
- Mora's mark of 52.60m in the men's javelin throw moved him into No. 5 all-time in program history for the event.
UP NEXT
- The Mountain Lions will head back to the CSUP ThunderBowl tomorrow morning for the second and final day of the Dr. Dan Caprioglio Invitational. Saturday's action is set to get started at 8:30 a.m. with the women's 10,000m race.
