Safoh Leaps to First Team All-America Accolades on Day Two in Indianapolis

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs track & field team composed another strong performance on day two of the 2025 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships as ten student-athletes earned All-America distinction, led by redshirt senior Richard Safoh as a First Team All-America honoree in the men's long jump.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Redshirt senior Richard Safoh kicked off the day with a strong effort in the men's long jump as he posted three straight jumps north of 7.20m to qualify for the finals in the event before unleashing a leap of 7.31m on his final jump of the day to move into seventh place overall. With his performance today, Safoh scored two points for the UCCS men's team and collected First Team All-America honors in the event for the second consecutive indoor season.
  • In the men's weight throw, senior Luke Hard made his indoor nationals debut and put forth a solid showing on the big stage as he made the finals for the event and went on to secure Second Team All-America honors with a ninth-place mark of 19.66m.
  • The Mountain Lions collected Second Team All-America honors in the women's distance medley relay as Kate Hedlund (1200m), Krissie Sanders (400m), Rachel Goodrich (800m), and Rachel Richtman (Mile) teamed up for a time of 10:37.99 that was good for tenth place overall. The UCCS men's distance medley relay squad of Brett Davis (1200m), Sebastien Jean (400m), Joseph Hamilton (800m), and Jagger Zlotoff (Mile) followed suit by finishing tenth overall in the men's race with a time of 9:50.77 to join the women in securing Second Team All-America status.
  • Redshirt senior Thorben Hast was in action throughout the day finishing off the final three events of the men's heptathlon and he completed the competition in 13th place with 4,297 points.
BEYOND THE RESULTS
  • Hast and Safoh competed in the black and gold for the final time in their respective careers on Friday after being stalwarts of the program for the past four and a half years. Hast finishes his time with the Mountain Lions as a two-time national qualifier for both the indoor heptathlon and the outdoor decathlon, picking up First Team All-America accolades in the indoor heptathlon in 2022 and Second Team All-America honors in the outdoor decathlon in 2023 and 2024. Safoh will depart the program with a pair of First Team All-America honors in the indoor long jump and a Second Team All-America nod in the outdoor long jump.
  • The Mountain Lions have now earned All-America status in the women's distance medley relay for eight consecutive seasons dating back to the 2017-18 indoor season.
UP NEXT
  • The third and final day of the indoor national championship meet will get underway tomorrow with redshirt senior Caiden Macktinger starting things off for the Mountain Lions at 12:35 p.m. (MT) in the men's pole vault.
