HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After a minute and a half without any points on the scoreboard, LCU started off scoring with a three-point bucket from Meg Meekins. UCCS responded quickly with a layup from Breelyn Robinson, and both teams traded baskets for the next three minutes. After trailing behind the Lady Chaps, Amyah Moore Allen converted a three-point bucket to tie up the game 7-7. With Brooklyn Hurtado's two converted free throws and wide open layup, the Mountain Lions took their first lead of the night. Capitalizing on that momentum, Jayla Jackson-Allen scored her first three-pointer of the game and put the Lady Chaps behind by four. Moore Allen secured a layup just five seconds before the buzzer sounded off and the Mountain Lions led 16-12 at the conclusion of the first quarter.
  • At the start of the second quarter, Moore Allen started putting points on the board immediately while Robinson converted a three-point shot moments later, bringing the score to 24-14. Moore Allen continued to make a significant impact by securing two free throws and assisting Jackson-Allen's three-point basket with two minutes left in the first half. Both teams traded baskets over the remaining time, and LCU trailed by 11 going into halftime.
  • Ayianna Johnson secured a layup to start putting points on the board, propelling UCCS to a leading score of 36-22. The Lady Chaps responded immediately with a converted free-throw from Martie McCoy and went on a 5-0 scoring run. Halfway through the third quarter, both teams traded buckets and LCU managed to bring the margin within six points. Robinson buried a stunning three-point shot just six seconds before the break, securing a 53-46 lead going into the final quarter.
  • After a scoreless first minute in the final stanza, Mattie Dollar gained some momentum for the Lady Chaps by converting a free throw. However, UCCS went on a 5-0 scoring run, quickly diminishing LCU's hopes of taking the lead. Both teams traded baskets for the majority of the fourth quarter until the Mountain Lions were put on their heels, and LCU closed the gap to 69-67. Following a nail-bitting final minute of the game, UCCS earned a 71-67 victory over the Lady Chaps, effectively ending their previous 11-0 undefeated record.
