Women’s Basketball Earns 66-54 Victory Over Chadron State

CHADRON, Neb. - The University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's basketball team defeated Chadron State College Saturday night, 66-54, after Ayianna Johnson scores 20 points and logs ten rebounds, while Amyah Moore Allen contributes 18 points and seven rebounds.

HOW IT HAPPENED 
  • Ayianna Johnson started UCCS off strong by winning the tip-off, which allowed Breelyn Robinson to drive down the court and score a stunning three-pointer. Building on that momentum, the Mountain Lions went on a 9-0 scoring run. CSC responded with a 5-0 run of their own, bringing the score within four points. Jayla Jackson-Allen ended the Eagle's momentum with a three-point bucket, while Gia Bradley converted another three-pointer shortly after to give UCCS a 12-point lead. A converted layup from Amya Winfrey ended UCCS' 8-0 scoring run. At the conclusion of the first quarter, the Mountain Lions led 26-17. 
  • UCCS started putting points on the scoreboard within seconds, as Johnson scored an easy layup and Mya Wilson converted a three-pointer not long after. The Eagles trailed by 16 points with six minutes left in the second quarter. Capitalizing on their momentum, UCCS went on a 9-0 scoring run and prevented CSC from scoring for four consecutive minutes. However, after a missed three-point shot from the Eagles, McKenzi Petersen got the rebound and converted a layup, bringing the score within six points. The Mountain Lions led by a score of 39-23 when the halftime buzzer sounded off. 
  • Rylie Ottmann started UCCS off on a strong foot in the third quarter with her second three-point bucket of the game. CSC responded with a deep three of their own, and the score continued on at 42-26. Immediately following, there was a two and a half minute scoring drought from both teams until the Eagles went on a 5-0 scoring run. Johnson secured a layup to end CSC's scoring streak, giving the Mountain Lions a 16-point advantage over the Eagles. CSC went on another 6-0 run, but it was not enough to gain the lead over UCCS and they trailed by 12 points going into the final break. 
  • The Eagles gained some momentum by starting the fourth quarter with a 6-0 scoring run. In response, UCCS went on a 6-0 scoring run as well, until Ella Moser ended their streak with a step-back three-point bucket. The Mountain Lions led by 15 points with four minutes remaining in the game, and both teams traded buckets for the remaining time. In the end, UCCS claimed a 66-54 victory over CSC. 
   
GAME STATISTICS 
  • Ayianna Johnson scored 20 points and logged 10 rebounds, while Amyah Moore Allen contributed 18 points and seven rebounds. 
  • UCCS shot 44.6 percent from the floor (25-of-56) and 83.3 percent from the line (10-of-12). 
  • Audrey Quintana led CSC with 12 points, while Keziah Toran logged seven points and 11 rebounds. 
 
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE 
  • Ayianna Johnson continues to sit in the No. 4 spot in the RMAC for the highest points per game average, scoring a total of 69 field goals across ten games. Amyah Moore Allen trails closely behind in the No. 6 spot, averaging 16.5 points per game. 
  • Johnson ties for seventh place in the RMAC for most rebounds, logging an average of 7.0 per game. She also ranks No. 3 for highest field goal percentage (0.570 percent), while Moore Allen ranks No. 6 (0.458 percent).
