HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Ayianna Johnson started UCCS off strong by winning the tip-off, which allowed Breelyn Robinson to drive down the court and score a stunning three-pointer. Building on that momentum, the Mountain Lions went on a 9-0 scoring run. CSC responded with a 5-0 run of their own, bringing the score within four points. Jayla Jackson-Allen ended the Eagle's momentum with a three-point bucket, while Gia Bradley converted another three-pointer shortly after to give UCCS a 12-point lead. A converted layup from Amya Winfrey ended UCCS' 8-0 scoring run. At the conclusion of the first quarter, the Mountain Lions led 26-17.
  • UCCS started putting points on the scoreboard within seconds, as Johnson scored an easy layup and Mya Wilson converted a three-pointer not long after. The Eagles trailed by 16 points with six minutes left in the second quarter. Capitalizing on their momentum, UCCS went on a 9-0 scoring run and prevented CSC from scoring for four consecutive minutes. However, after a missed three-point shot from the Eagles, McKenzi Petersen got the rebound and converted a layup, bringing the score within six points. The Mountain Lions led by a score of 39-23 when the halftime buzzer sounded off.
  • Rylie Ottmann started UCCS off on a strong foot in the third quarter with her second three-point bucket of the game. CSC responded with a deep three of their own, and the score continued on at 42-26. Immediately following, there was a two and a half minute scoring drought from both teams until the Eagles went on a 5-0 scoring run. Johnson secured a layup to end CSC's scoring streak, giving the Mountain Lions a 16-point advantage over the Eagles. CSC went on another 6-0 run, but it was not enough to gain the lead over UCCS and they trailed by 12 points going into the final break.
  • The Eagles gained some momentum by starting the fourth quarter with a 6-0 scoring run. In response, UCCS went on a 6-0 scoring run as well, until Ella Moser ended their streak with a step-back three-point bucket. The Mountain Lions led by 15 points with four minutes remaining in the game, and both teams traded buckets for the remaining time. In the end, UCCS claimed a 66-54 victory over CSC.
