COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Sophomore
Payton Tompkins of the University of Colorado Colorado Springs volleyball team has garnered Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week recognition, announced by the league office Monday afternoon. Tompkins is the second Mountain Lion this season to receive RMAC Player of the Week honors after
Nicole Martin was named the Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 29.
The 5-foot-11 outside hitter led the Mountain Lions to two key wins at home this past weekend. In a 3-0 sweep Friday evening over Colorado State University Pueblo, Tompkins notched 10 kills while hitting .269 at the net. Defensively, she dug up eight attacks and notched a solo block. The next day in a 3-2 win over Colorado Christian University, the Dallas, Texas native recorded a career high 25 kills behind a stellar .300 hitting percentage. In the two matches, she averaged 4.4 kills per set and hit the ball at a .291 clip.
Tompkins, who has started all 20 matches this season, leads the team and is ranked third in the league in both kills per set (3.6) and points per set (4.1). She owns a .272 attack percentage and has added 20 aces, 29 blocks, and 158 digs.
The Mountain Lions, who are tied for first place in the RMAC standings, will take their six-match winning streak to Durango, Colo. this weekend for the RMAC Power Pod. UCCS (18-2, 9-1 RMAC) will face host school Fort Lewis College on Thursday at 6 p.m., before meeting Colorado School of Mines in a neutral site match on Friday at 4 p.m. Both matches this weekend will be non-conference matches.
