COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The University of Colroado Colorado Springs men's basketball team is picked to finish as the fourth best team in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference ahead of the 2025-26 winter season, as Junior guard
Xavier Martinez is named to the Preseason All-RMAC team.
The RMAC Preseason Coaches' Poll is voted on by the leagues 15 head coaches, with coaches prohibited from voting for their own team. 14 points was awarded for a first place vote, with each place vote descending in points to 1 for a last place vote. 196 points is the maximum a team can earn ahead of the season.
The Black Hills State Yellow Jackets were picked as the top team heading into the season which begins on November 14
th, as BHSU earned ten first place votes, two seconds, and one third for a total of 183 points. Colorado School of Mines follows up their Sweet 16 appearance from last spring, garnering three first place, six second place, and two third place votes with a 167 point total. Colorado Mesa rounded out the top three with one first place vote, three second place votes, and six third place votes for a 158 point total.
UCCS, who finished seventh in the conference last year as was correctly projected by the preseason poll last fall, slotted in fourth place just one point ahead of projected fifth place Fort Lewis. The Mountain Lions took home two first place votes, with one third place nod for a total of 144 points.
Fort Lewis College (143), MSU Denver (137), Chadron State (102), and Colorado Christian (90) round out the tournament places in the Preseason Coaches' Poll.
Also released with the poll was the members of the Preseason All-RMAC team, with Junior point guard
Xavier Martinez making the list after being named All-RMAC Second Team last spring. Martinez was second on the team in scoring last winter with an average of 13.5 points per game, tallying 114 assists, in 33.3 minutes per game. The motor to the UCCS offense, Martinez stood out throughout the season as one of the best point men in the RMAC.
Martinez and the UCCS Men's Basketball team begin their season on November 14
th in Wichita Falls, Texas against Midwestern State University. Tip off for that game is set for 6 p.m. MT.
