  • After a solid shooting night on Thursday, the Mountain Lions struggled in the first half on Saturday. The team shot 31.4 percent from the field and just 15.4 percent from three-point range. UCCS started the game down 12-4 early, and Westminster hovered around a double-digit lead until freshman forward Shawn Williams converted a three-point play followed by a James Ellis three just a few possessions later to bring the score to 24-20 in favor of the Griffins.
  • With just under five minutes remaining in the half, freshman Brody Hull drilled a three to move within two of WU. The next score came from two Jezza McKenzie free throws after drawing a blocking foul to tie the game for the first time since 17:09 on the clock. The Mountain Lions found themselves down by five again with less than a minute to play, but a couple more free throws from McKenzie and a layup from Alex Hurr brought the score to 32-31 heading into the second half.
  • The Mountain Lions shot much better in the second half, going 58.3 percent from the field and 69.2 percent from three-point range. UCCS took a 37-33 lead coming out of halftime, as Hull hit a three followed by a layup. One possession later, Mario Williams Jr. sparked a 14-8 UCCS run with a three and ended it with another. The Mountain Lions would go scoreless for the next minute as the Griffins quickly fell within a point after three straight scoring possessions.
  • Halfway through the second, Hull drilled another three-point shot to put the Mountain Lions up 58-57, but WU went on a 12-2 run right after to take a nine-point lead. Despite the deficit, UCCS gained some momentum once again, scoring 10 unanswered points thanks to seven from Marzouq Abdur-Razaaq and three from McKenzie. With the score soon tied at 79 apiece, junior guard Xavier Martinez got fouled with 22 seconds remaining and hit just one of his free throws. Holding the ball for the last shot, WU's Jake Nadauld attempted a running floater in the paint, but the ball bounced off the front of the rim as UCCS claimed an 80-79 victory.
