HOW IT HAPPENED
- Competing in the men's distance medley relay for the first time this indoor season, UCCS lined up Brett Davis (1200m), Sebastien Jean (400m), Joseph Hamilton (800m), and Jagger Zlotoff (1600m) to pass the baton and the group put together a strong showing as they collectively raced to an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 9:48.89 that was good for second place.
- Sophomore Paige Cordero and redshirt junior Madissyn Moore claimed the top two positions in the women's long jump competition with Cordero taking first place with a leap of 5.61m and Moore finishing second overall in the 14-person field while matching her season-best with a mark of 5.58m. On the men's side of the long jump, redshirt senior Richard Safoh was the top Mountain Lion finisher as he claimed a second-place finish with a jump of 7.07m.
- A pair of redshirt sophomores led the way for the Mountain Lions in the men's 3,000m race as Joseph Impellitteri crossed the finish line in fifth place at a personal best converted time of 8:33.36 and Michael Burke took sixth place overall with a personal best converted time of 8:34.43. BEYOND THE RESULTS
- UCCS' men's distance medley relay converted time of 9:48.89 sits just over three seconds shy of the raw indoor school record time (9:45.02) that was established during the 2022-23 indoor season and would have ranked inside the top 20 in the nation on last season's final indoor track & field provisional qualifying list.
UP NEXT
- The Mountain Lions will be back in action tomorrow with the full squad set to compete at Western Colorado University's Big Red Machine Open in Gunnison, Colo. beginning at 1 p.m.
