UCCS Posts Four NCAA Provisional Marks at the Colorado Classic

BOULDER, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs track & field team enjoyed a great day on their sister campus as the Mountain Lions notch four NCAA provisional qualifying marks at the Colorado Classic.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The main event of the meet on Saturday was a standalone women's invite mile which consisted of seven top mile athletes including UCCS' Anna Fauske. Fauske dashed her way to a fifth-place finish of the top racers with a NCAA provisional converted mark of 4:42.96.
  • Kate Hedlund also captured herself a NCAA qualifying mark in the women's 800-meter race. Competing in the 800 for the first time this season, Hedlund crossed the finish line in third place with a converted time of 2:11.15.
  • The men's 400-meter event held two more NCAA provisional for UCCS as both Kymani Sterling and Sebastien Jean put up provisional marks. Sebastien Jean took home the win in the event as he rushed his way to a converted time of 48.02. His raw time of 47.91 is a new personal best for Jean, moving him into second all time in program history for the 400-meter event. Kymani Sterling, who owns the program lead, finished third in the event with a converted time of 48.32 which is also a NCAA provisional mark.
  • Field events took place on Friday in Boulder with both Michael Roberts and Hayden Cuevas posting new personal bests in the men's weight throw. Roberts tossed his new best of 17.95 meters, a 0.04-meter improvement over his previous best, as he owns the fourth best program mark. Cuevas slung a new career best of 18.08 meters, which is an impressive 0.87m improvement to put him in third all-time in program history.
 
BEYOND THE RESULTS
  • Both Men's weight throwers for UCCS experienced their best outings in their career as both Hayden Cuevas (18.08m) and Michael Roberts (17.95m) notched new personal bests.
  • Sebastian Jean moves into second in the program's history with a 400 meter dash finish at 47.91.

  • The Mountain Lions will return home to Mountain Lion Fieldhouse as they are set to host the Colorado Running Company UCCS Invite on Saturday with the first event set to begin at 11:30 am.
