Women’s Cross Country Claims Top 10 Finish at Nationals

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Led by All-America performances from Anna Fauske and Kate Hedlund, the University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's cross country team earned a seventh place finish (266 points) out 34 teams Saturday afternoon at the NCAA Division II Championship Meet, held in Sacramento, Calif.

AROUND THE COURSE
  • Anna Fauske claimed her third straight All-America nod after duplicating last year's ninth place finish, posting a time of 20:43.8.
  • Earning her second All-America accolade in three years, graduate student Kate Hedlund finished 36th overall in 21:23.7.
  • Kaya Pillivant inked a new 6k personal best time with a mark of 21:46.3 to finish 62nd overall.
  • Crossing the finish line within 11 seconds of each other were Rachel Richtman in 90th place (22:04.9) and RMAC Freshman of the Year Madison Brosig in 108th place (22:15.7).
  • Emma Montoya finished sixth for the Mountain Lions and 143rd overall in 22:33.6, as Molly Breuer wrapped up the Mountain Lions with a time of 22:34.8 and a 145th place finish.
                       
RACE LEADERS
  • Lauren Kiley from Grand Valley State University led all 258 runners, clocking a time of 20:28.5. 
  • Adams State University won the team title behind 61 points and a convincing 66-point win over second place West Texas A&M University (127 points).
  • Four RMAC teams finished in the top 10 Saturday afternoon.  Colorado State University Pueblo posted a third place finish with 160 points as Colorado School of Mines finished just ahead of UCCS with a fifth place finish and 238 points.
 
BEYOND THE FINISH LINE
  • UCCS' seventh place finish is the fourth time in program history the Mountain Lions have finished in the top 10 at the national meet.
  • Today's national championship meet was the fourth Division II championship race for Fauske and Hedlund. It also marked the third national meet for Breuer and Richtman, while Montoya made her second straight appearance.
  • Lacing up for their first career national meet today were Brosig and Pillivant, who both scored points for UCCS.
  • Brosig's time of 22:15.7 set a new personal best time.
 
UP NEXT
  • UCCS will now take a two week break from competition before opening the indoor track and field season Dec. 6-7 at Colorado School of Mines.
