HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Mountain Lions began Sunday afternoon's matchup aggressively on both offense and defense, tallying 10 total shots in the first half while only allowing one. In the 13th minute, sophomore midfielder Taylynn Levi found the back of the Roadrunners' net into the bottom left past a diving goalkeeper for the first score of the game.
- UCCS found another opportunity to score in the 45th minute of the first half but could not convert as Levi tried to find the lower left corner of MSUD's goal again before halftime, but the ball missed the inside of the left post by a few feet and rolled out of bounds.
- The second half was a completely different story for the Mountain Lions as MSUD midfielder Sami Spring sent a powerful shot past freshman goalkeeper Izzy Lalouette off the assist of Elly Peterson to put the Roadrunners on the board and tie the game 1-1 in the 56th minute of game time.
- Defensive struggles continued to plague the Mountain Lions in the second half when Lalouette charged a rolling ball which led to a scrum in front of the UCCS goal and allowed MSUD's Tessa Killmon to score what would be the game-winning goal on the empty net in 66th minute of action.
