LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Competing among 23 Division I teams at the Live In Lou Classic Saturday morning, eight of which are regionally ranked, the ninth-ranked University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's cross country team finished seventh out of 27 total teams. The Mountain Lions scored 186 points, besting 18 Division I programs. The only Division II team to top UCCS was No. 13 West Texas A&M University with 147 points for a fourth-place finish. Back home in Colorado Springs, several Mountain Lions competed in the Colorado College Ted Castaneda Classic. UCCS posted a second team finish in the eight-team meet.

AROUND THE COURSE
- Anna Fauske crossed the finish line in 10th place overall, setting a new personal best 5k time in 17:02.8. Three spots behind Fauske and just four seconds off from recording a new personal best time was Kate Hedlund with a mark of 17:15.0.
- Emma Montoya and Kaya Pillivant both notched their fastest 5k times of their career Saturday morning. Montoya posted a 49th place finish in 17:53.4 followed by Pillivant's 56th place in 17:56.7.
- Crossing the finish line with in two-tenths of a second of each other were Molly Breuer and Madison Brosig, clocking times of 18:00.1 and 18:00.3 to finish 61st and 63rd overall, respectively.
- At Monument Valley Park in the CC Castaneda Classic, the trio of Madison Chavez (ninth place, 22:49.8), Abby Bartel (12th place, 22:59.3) and Maddie Ruszkiewicz (13th place, 22:57.7) paced the Mountain Lions to a second-place team finish.
RACE LEADERS
- West Virgina University won the team title behind 36 points. WV's Ceili McCabe won the 263-runner race in 16:06.0.
- Colorado College won their home meet with a perfect score (15 points). Alison Mueller-Hickler led all 58 runners with a 6k time of 22:17.6.
BEYOND THE FINISH LINE
- Lida Padgett competed in her first race in a Mountain Lion uniform, posting a 5k time of 18:17.2 to finish 83rd overall at the Live in Lou Classic.
- Graduate student Kate Hedlund competed in her first race of the season, nearly setting a new 5k career time.
- Chavez, Bartel and Ruszkiewicz all captured career best times, as did Kaley Fergus with a mark of 24:52.4.
UP NEXT
- The Mountain Lions will run their last regular season race on Friday, Oct. 11 at the UCCS XC Open at Monument Valley Park. The men's race will begin at 9 a.m. followed by the women's race at 9:45 a.m.
