NEW ORLEANS, La. – After two strong performances at Saturday's Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference championships, both University of Colorado Colorado Springs cross country teams moved up in the United States Track and Field Cross Country Coaches Association Division II Coaches' Week 6 polls. The Mountain Lions men's team jumped up an incredible six spots for their highest ranking of the season, garnering 115 points to be ranked No. 16. The Mountain Lions women's' squad matched their season high and moved up two spots to No. 9 in this week's poll (178 points).
Saturday's action started with the
Jagger Zlotoff and
Brett Davis recording personal best 8k times to lead UCCS to a fourth place finish behind 114 points. Zlotoff was the fifth fastest runner on the course, crossing the finish line in 24:10.35. Davis's new PR time of 24:33.75 placed him 12
th overall, while
Enzo Knapp clocked a time of 25:11.19 to post a 29
th place finish. Bringing in the Mountain Lions scorers were
Joseph Impellitteri and
Koy Cunningham who finished just four seconds within each other. Impellitteri earned a 35
th place finish in 25:22.93 just ahead of Cunningham's 37
th place finish in 25:26.20.
In the women's 5.8k championship race, all five UCCS women's cross country scorers earned all-conference honors. The Mountain Lions finished third out of 15 teams with 95 points as freshman
Madison Brosig was the first freshman to cross the finish line in 21st place, earning her the 2024 RMAC Freshman of the Year honor.
Anna Fauske led the pack with a third-place finish in 19:39.66.
Kate Hedlund came in second for UCCS and 19
th overall with a time of 20:56.32. Finishing in a packed time of 16 seconds were Brosig (21
st place, 21:09.17),
Molly Breuer (26
th place, 21:23.89) and
Kaya Pillivant (28
th place, 21:25.77).
Both No. 1 teams in each coaches' poll remain unchanged with the Wingate University men's team and Adams State University's women's team receiving all eight first-place votes for 240 points.
This week's South Central Regional rankings has the UCCS men's team staying at No. 7 as the women moved up one position to No. 6.
UCCS will return to action next Saturday, Nov. 9 for the 2024 NCAA South Central Regional Championship, hosted by Metropolitan State University of Denver at Washington Park.
