No. 11 UCCS Excels at RMAC Championships with Third Place Finish; Brosig Named RMAC Freshman of the Year

LAS VEGAS, N.M. – All five University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's cross country scorers earned all-conference honors Saturday morning at the 2024 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference championship meet, held in Las Vegas, N.M. at the Gene Torres Golf Course.  The Mountain Lions finished third out of 15 teams with 95 points. Freshman Madison Brosig was the first freshman to corss the finish line in 21st place, earning her the 2024 RMAC Freshman of the Year honor.

AROUND THE COURSE
  • Not only did the first five Mountain Lions to finish the 6k course collect All-RMAC accolades, all five runners also recorded personal best 6k times.
  • Anna Fauske led the pack with a third-place finish in 19:39.66.  Her third place finish is the highest by a Mountain Lion since Layla Almasri finished runner-up in 2021.
  • Kate Hedlund came in second for UCCS and 19th overall with a time of 20:56.32.
  • Finishing in a packed time of 16 seconds were Brosig (21st place, 21:09.17), Molly Breuer (26th place, 21:23.89) and Kaya Pillivant (28th place, 21:25.77).
                       
RACE LEADERS
  • Adams State University accumulated both the team and individual titles.  The Grizzlies notched 30 team points as Ava O'Connor led the 117-runner field with a winning time of 19:28.25.
 
BEYOND THE FINISH LINE
  • Brosig is the second Mountain Lion in program history to earn RMAC Freshman of the Year distinction (Heather Bates, 2014).
  • Fauske collected her fourth All-RMAC cross country honor and her third straight All-RMAC First Team award.  She becomes the third Mountain Lion to earn four all-conference accolades (Layla Almasri, Kayla Wooten)
  • Running in her fifth conference championship race, Hedlund picked up her first all-conference medal.
  • Brosig, Breuer and Pillivant also received their first All-RMAC cross country recognition.
  • Emma Montoya set a personal best time of 22:06.00 with a 44th place finish.
  • Lida Padgett ran in her first 6k meet as a Mountain Lion, clocking a time of 22:16.59 to finish 52nd overall.
 
UP NEXT
  • The Mountain Lions return to action in two weeks for the 2024 NCAA South Central Regional championship.  Metropolitan State University of Denver will host the championship at Washington Park.  The women's 6k race will begin at 11:15 a.m.
