COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo- The University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's soccer team falls to fifth in the nation after dropping their first match of the season to Fort Lewis College.
Lynn University holds on to the top ranking for the fifth consecutive week with the University of Charleston now ranked second. The Mountain Lions swap places with Limestone University for the fifth spot in the country after falling to Fort Lewis College on Thursday night. With their week seven wins over UCCS and Colorado State University Pueblo who were ranked fourth and seventh, respectively, Fort Lewis earns their way back into the rankings, making a substantial jump to 13th. CSU-Pueblo is the only other team in the RMAC with a top 25 ranking, as they fall to 25th in the nation.
The Mountain Lions' (10-1-2) unbeaten streak to begin the season came to an end in week seven with a 3-1 home loss against Fort Lewis on Thursday before shutting out Adams State University 5-0 on Sunday.
UCCS is tied for third in the RMAC with Fort Lewis, both claiming a 3-1-1 conference record. Regis University (5-0-1 in RMAC) remains number one with CSU-Pueblo (4-1 in RMAC) right behind. Even with the loss to Fort Lewis on Thursday, the Mountain Lions still maintain the highest overall winning percentage in the conference at .846. The six goals scored by UCCS in week seven propelled them to first in the RMAC with 27 in 13 games, averaging 2.077 per match. The Mountain Lions are still first in the conference in goals allowed this season with 10.
Senior midfielder Dani Barajas had another great week for the Mountain Lions, scoring once in each of their two games, earning himself sole possession of first place in goals in the RMAC with eight while being only eighth in total shots on goal with 13 on the season. Junior Forward Miles Seminario logged his fifth goal of the season against Adams State which leaves him tied for the fifth leading scorer in the conference. Jack Souder, Drew Sanchez, and Hugo Nordenberg also converted their first goals of the season against Adams State which means that 12 different Mountain Lions have now scored this year.
The Mountain Lions continue their three-game road trip this week beginning in Grand Junction, Colo. at CMU Community Hospital Unity Field to take on Colorado Mesa University on Thursday, Oct. 24 with kickoff scheduled for 7:00 p.m. (MT). The second game of the week will take place on Sunday, Oct. 27 at WU Dumke Field in Salt Lake City, Utah where the Mountain Lions will take on Westminster University at 2:30 p.m. (MT).
