HOW IT HAPPENED
- The first 20 minutes of action featured strong defensive efforts by both sides until senior midfielder Fie Steenberg broke the ice and sent a pass from Jessica Rockwell into the right side of the Yellow Jackets' goal for the first score of the match and second of the season for Steenberg.
- The Mountain Lions continued to press BHSU's defense and finally broke through again in the 33rd minute when graduate forward Amelia McManus turned a high cross from Rockwell into a header that found the back of the nylon to put UCCS up 2-0. After their second goal, the Mountain Lions continued to dominate possession to close a strong first half in which they only allowed one shot while recording 12 of their own.
- UCCS began the second half much like they closed the first as sophomore midfielder Luka Johnson increased the lead to three in the 49th minute on a left footed goal into the bottom right corner for her third of the season. Just five minutes later, BHSU blocked a cross from McManus that was rebounded by junior midfielder Emily Aguilar who ultimately converted another goal for UCCS to match their single game season high and extend the lead to 4-0.
- Despite their seemingly insurmountable deficit, BHSU battled back and found a way to avoid a shutout in the 58th minute as Yellow Jacket defender Makayla Selensky's shot was knocked down by UCCS goalkeeper Alexa Malaspina and rebounded by Katy Vinton who recorded the lone goal of the game for her team.
