HOW IT HAPPENED
- The first half of action began with stellar defense from both sides as Mountain Lion Jadyn LeDoux recorded two shots in the first six minutes that were saved by Rangers' goalkeeper Grace Glover. Three minutes later, Regis had a flurry of shots in front of the UCCS goal that led to a block by the defense and two saves on the ground by Alexa Malaspina to keep the match scoreless.
- The Mountain Lions broke the scoring drought in the 21st minute when sophomore midfielder Taylynn Levi threaded the ball through two defenders on a breakaway to LeDoux for a right footed goal into the left side of the Rangers' net to give UCCS a 1-0 lead. The remainder of the first half played out the same way it started as both teams' defenses stood tall to take the one score game to the half.
- The offensive struggles continued for UCCS in the second half as their best opportunity came from a blocked header shot by graduate forward Amelia McManus off a cross from the right side by LeDoux looking to extend the lead for the Mountain Lions.
- Despite the Mountain Lions' inability to connect for another score, the defense continued to shine in their efforts to hold the lead. Freshman goalkeeper Alexa Malaspina kept the 1-0 decision intact in the 64th minute as she made a sprawling fingertip save in the top right corner of the UCCS goal to hold the Rangers silent on offense.
