NEW ORLEANS, La. – The United States Track and Field Cross Country Coaches Association Division II Coaches' Poll Week 5 rankings were released Wednesday, and the University of Colorado Colorado Springs cross country teams retain their Top 25 rankings. In the women's poll, the Mountain Lions received 162 points, moving to No. 11 overall. The men's rankings have the Mountain Lions program ranked at No. 22 with 71 points.
Multiple Mountain Lions competed this past Friday at the annual UCCS XC Open, held at Monument Valley Park. More than 250 runners and 15 teams competed between the men's 8k race and the women's 6k race.
Caden Leal paced the men's team in the unscored meet, finishing 26
th overall in 26:09.0. The second race of the morning featured
Madison Chavez leading the women's program as she crossed the finish line in 22:45.1 for 15
th place.
Both No. 1 teams in each coaches' poll remain unchanged with the Wingate University men's team and Adams State University's women's team receiving all eight first-place votes for 240 points.
This week's South Central Regional rankings remained unchanged from last week, the men's team staying at No. 7 for the fourth straight week and the women's team ranked No. 6 in the region for the second consecutive week.
The Mountain Lions have the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championship meet in their sights for Saturday, Oct. 23. New Mexico Highlands University is the host institution and will run the championship races at Gene Torres Golf Club in Las Vegas. N.M. The men's 8k race is slated to start at 10:45 a.m. followed by the women's 6k championship race at 11:35 a.m.
