McGriff, Patrick Receive CSC Academic All-District® Women’s At-Large Recognition

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The College Sports Communicators (CSC) announced the 2022-23 Academic All-District® Women's At-Large Teams on Tuesday.  Redshirt-senior Madison McGriff and junior Julia Patrick of the University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's lacrosse program are receiving CSC Academic All-District® Women's At-Large First Team recognition. Twelve sports encompass the women's at-large team: Beach Volleyball, Bowling, Crew/Rowing, Fencing, Field Hockey, Golf, Gymnastics, Ice Hockey, Lacrosse, Rifle, Skiing and Water Polo.

The 2023 Academic All-District® At-Large Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom.  The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes women's at-large honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
 
To be eligible for all-district accolades, the honorees need to be sophomores or above with a 3.5 or greater grade-point average (GPA) and be a significant contributor to the team.
 
Earning her second straight appearance on the Academic All-District team, goalkeeper Madison McGriff (Lakewood, Colo.) is the two-time RMAC Goalkeeper of the Year.  Voted to the All-RMAC First Team and RMAC All-Academic First Team the past two seasons, McGriff played every minute in goal for the Mountain Lions. Named to the 2023 USA Lacrosse Magazine Honorable Mention team, she led the RMAC in ground balls per game (4.3) and saves per game (11.8) and was third in the league in save percentage (.449) and sixth in goals against average (14.63).  She posted at least 11 saves in 15 games this season and made a season high 16 saves at Franklin Pierce on Feb. 22.  A three-time RMAC Defensive Player of the Week in 2023, McGriff finished the season with a 6-11 record in goal and made 200 saves after facing 592 shots.  Her 200 saves and 11.8 saves per game are season records, while her 73 ground balls are the second most in a season.  An Elementary Education major at UCCS with a 3.907 GPA, McGriff is the all-time leader at UCCS in saves with 45.3 (9.85 saves per game) and wins (21).
 
A native of Tustin, Calif., midfielder Julia Patrick set several game, season and career records for the Mountain Lions.  Patrick's 11 points at Colorado State University Pueblo on April 2 tied the school record for most points in a game.  The next time she faced the ThunderWolves (April 28), Patrick tied the school record for most goals netted in a single contest (eight).  A 2023 USA Lacrosse Magazine Honorable Mention selection and a two-time All-RMAC First Team performer, Patrick ranked second in the in the RMAC in points per game (3.9), fourth in goals per game (3.1) and shots per game (5.6), seventh in assists per game (.89) and eighth in draws per game (3.4).  One of six Mountain Lions to start all 17 games this season, Patrick recorded 52 goals, 15 assists, 95 shots (71 shots on goal), two game-winning goals, seven player-up goals, 14 free position goals, 57 draws, 15 ground balls and caused three turnovers.  A three-time RMAC Offensive Player of the Week in 2023, Patrick set the season school records in goals, player-up goals, free-position goals, and she tied for the most games started and total points in a season.  Her 3.1 goals per game, 95 shots and 71 shots on goal are the second most ever recorded in a season.  A 2023 RMAC All-Academic First Team selection, Patrick is an Exercise Science major with a 3.772 GPA.
 
The Mountain Lions finished the 2023 season third overall in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference with a 5-5 league record and a 6-11 record overall.
